Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard would welcome two suitable signings this summer to strengthen a squad that he thinks will challenge for next year's title based on his partnership with Fernando Torres.
Gerrard has warned the Barclays Premier League that he expects to push Manchester United even closer next season if he and Spain striker Torres stay fit.
They have only started 13 league games together this season but have scored 16 goals between them in those games, with two from Gerrard helping defeat West Ham 3-0 on Saturday.
And Liverpool's captain feels his side are not far away from being the finished article.
"We've shown this year we've made massive strides and there has been big progression," Gerrard said. "I think every squad, no matter how successful you are, still needs strengthening and changes.
"I don't think this team needs many changes because the players in the squad are very good. If we can get a couple in and get stronger, of course we want them."

Need D Villa, Barry,G Johnson, and bring few players through Jay spearing, nemth, Darby, job done
they need faster midfielders, ones who can make good passes and cross in. another defender isnt a bad choice either as Liverpool only have about 5-6 main. LIVERPOOL 4 EVA

No matter what, liver pool is the best in England and not Man u that buys cup.Liver pool we stand,we play with all our effort and we shall make it next season.
listen man u scum the only reason sir spank alot fergie is staying on he wants to overhall liverpools trophy count fair duce to him when he does Liverpool will come back dont worry we didnt buy all them euro cups
Em or emz, what a load of rot, Man u just buy titles, just like Chelsea have done.
Bring and salary cap and see how you go.
gerrard and torres are good players but i dont want liverpool to win the league for a long time because we would never hear the end of it man united win something and then they are hungry for more and try to win the next season whereas liverpool will just go on and on and on about the trophy they have won
basically liverpool are the glory seekers because they never shut up about their previous glory whereas man united win and move on thats the kind of glory seeking i like to see
gerrard and torres are the best!!! end of story
Ronaldo on his way to madrid and tevez going you will be left with shrek and the incredable sulk
IT was,nt so mush being out injured was the cause we were only beaten twice to mush draws we have got to start beaten weaker teams and then we can start about winning the premiership y.n.w.a.
all those goals all those late winners all those dreams all that talk yet again nothing to show for it torres must look at united and think only if, he would have 2 titles a european cup (probably another too) fergie was always interested in signing him but with the likes of rooney ronaldo tevez berbatov we must not be greedy, torres is a fantastic striker, imagine him at utd with all the service he would get it doesn't bear thinking about thats probably your only consolation + 1-4
Colin, good point well made. As much as I detest Fergie, you have to applaud the man. I even grudingly hope that Utd win the final.
XS is clueless about Rafa who is the only person to have genuinely got Utd on the run and under the skin (hence XS's banal comments). He is a top manager who is finally learning about his players and the Liverpool way. Those 2 draws have cost us the title but I think we will get it next season.
XS What are you on! Look its without doubt utd have been a better team for the last 10 years or so.And altough I dislike utd mainly because of supporters comments like yours, I still appreciate a good football match. If utd win well then fine I don't like it but if they deserve a win thats football. As for going on a rant fergie is the best of them. Of course we all need teams to do us favours as your team have in the past. However, but for the number of draws Liverpool have made and give your team an helping hand then Liverpool would be out of sight. Utd will more than likley win the tittle because they will have more points and thats it. They have had a slightly better season but played no more better footbal than some of the teams around them. Quite simply your manager has been in the job a long time and built his squad up effectively and whilst I dont like his style I do applaud the fact that unlike a few years ago ( like most clubs currently) when he played mainly overseas players, your team does have a good mix of british & Irish players in the squad. Now XS I think that is an unbiased opinion try to learn you may then have something useful to say.
My partnership with Torres HAHAHA
I KNEW THEY WERE F@GGOTS HAHA
to xs are you a armchair supporter in your local boozer were you probably where when liverpool destroyed man u and the prawn sarnie southerners ps matt busby learnt his trade at liverpool
Of course you are right again Lord Gerrard, king of the universe, best player ever.... never won the league, diver, cheat, idiot. Yes you do only need a couple of signings to compete with the mighty United - about another 9 world class players should do the trick!!!! Gerrard and Torres are the scousers only hope and lets face it Fernando's hamstrings are only marginally better than Hargreaves' knees so don't expect them to play a lot of games next season. Your manager is a pathetic whinger (who claims to have supported City yesterday coz he knows his team aren't good enough to win anything off their own back, instead relying on favours) and he will never win another trophy in England. His rant summed the man up - deluded, childish and petty
They need support How about david Villa ? Players like Babbel Reirra need to perform or get rid.
no, not Tevez, Lavezzi and Aguero!
Quite right Stevie! Maybe Teves, who knows?
