Hutchings plays waiting game

Mon 11 May, 02:50 PM

Walsall manager Chris Hutchings has revealed he will wait to discover the responses from his out-of-contract players before making any moves in the transfer market.

The Saddlers have given eight players until the start of June to come to a decision over whether they will accept the terms offered to them, and Hutchings admits although he has plenty of names in mind, he will not move until the knows the complete picture.

Richard Davies has already signed on the dotted line and Hutchings, who was in attendance for Shrewsbury's play-off semi-final first leg against Bury last Thursday, is waiting on the remaining seven.

"There are one or two players who we have watched and talked about, but first and foremost we've got to make sure we know what is happening with the players we've got, then we can look closer at bringing people in," he said in the Birmingham Mail.

"There is no point in me talking to a player and trying to get him into the club if we have already offered a contract to a player who might be able to do the same job. We have to give the players we have offered contracts to the chance to make a decision and reply to our offer.

"We would like to get things moving but you don't need to have players signed up for the first month of pre-season. We might bring people in during July because there will be a lot of players looking for clubs."
