Sheffield Wednesday have made an enquiry for Aberdeen midfielder Barry Nicholson, who is out of contract at Pittodrie this summer.The 29-year-old Nicholson, capped three times by Scotland, is expected to leave the SPL, with Dundee United ruling out a move on Monday.

Wednesday's Championship rivals Norwich have also been linked with a move for the former Rangers man, but Hillsborough boss Brian Laws has already registered his interest with Nicholson's agent.

Laws told The Star: "I know about Barry Nicholson; I've spoken to his agent, made an enquiry. But we've not made any formal offers to him."
