Bristol City's transfer activity has begun in earnest after two bids were made for prospective summer targets.

Boss Gary Johnson is wisely keeping counsel and will not give any further hints at this time.

Still waiting on replies, the manager told the club's official site that the Robins would conduct themselves in a proper manner.

"There are a couple of bids out there now," said Johnson.

"But it's important to keep the identities to ourselves. It's the wrong way to go about it if you start discussing the players or the clubs involved.

"The bids go on and it's important the club comes back to give you permission to talk to the player or not. We try and keep it right."

Johnson also suggested that the club might have to be prepared to play the long game in their search for recruits.

"I think some deals will come to fruition quicker than others, but generally most players at this stage will keep their options open if they're any good," he added.

"Most agents will be advising their players to stay free for as long as possible; keep plates spinning as I say.

"Sometimes we keep plates spinning, sometimes we are one of the plates the player is spinning.

"You just have to hang on in there and hope you've done enough to convince the player or his representative that we're the club for them. However you can't do that until you've agreed a fee with the player's club."

In other news, Johnson has moved quickly to dismiss rumours of defender Christian Ribiero moving to Everton as "nothing more than talk."
