Euro 2008 - Wilhelmsson out of Euros

Sweden winger Christian Wilhelmsson has been ruled out of Euro 2008 after suffering a thigh injury during the 2-0 Group D win over holders Greece.

The Nantes-owned wide man, who spent last season on-loan at Bolton and Deportivo, pulled up in agony with a quarter of an hour remaining in the victory.

"Christian has torn a hamstring and will be out for the rest of the finals," team doctor Anders Valentin said before adding the injury would take at least three weeks to heal.

Boss Lars Lagerback said that a decision has not yet been made on whether he would remain with the squad or return to Sweden.

Midfielder Sebastian Larsson, of relegated Birmingham, is expected to replace Wilhelmsson in the starting line-up, although Lyon midfielder Kim Kallstrom could start in the middle with Anders Svensson moving wide.

Valentin said right-back Niclas Alexandersson, who was substituted in the match with a calf strain, could be a doubt.

"I have not examined him today but he says he feels better," Valentin added.

"We will take a few scans later to see but he may not be fit enough for the next match. We will have to wait and see."

Sweden face group leaders Spain on Saturday June 14.
