Tottenham have agreed to sign Mexican winger Giovani Dos Santos from Barcelona.
The transfer is subject to the player passing a medical examination and agreeing personal terms.
Spurs and Barcelona had previously agreed an initial fee of £4.7 million for the 19-year-old, which could rise by as much as another £3.9 million depending on appearances, and the Spanish club will retain a fifth of the player's ownership rights for the next two years.
Giovani told Tottenham's official website: "It is a dream for me to come to a big club like Spurs. I've come here to further explore my qualities and give my all for my new team. As a young player I have come to a club where I feel there are many opportunities for me.
"It is great to see Spurs fans wearing the shirt on the streets of London. I came here because of the passion of the fans as well as the size of the club, and I'm very much looking forward to playing in England."
Coach Juande Ramos expressed his satisfaction that the deal had been concluded.
"If Giovani progresses as we hope he will be a terrific player," he said. "This is a young player with a lot of potential, whom I have watched for some time and I am delighted he has joined the squad.
"For us it is an exciting signing because he has excellent quality, he operates well in different positions and, above all, is technically excellent."
Giovani, who graduated from Barca's heralded youth academy, is Spurs' third acquisition of the summer, following the signings of fellow midfielders Luka Modric and John Bostock.
Meanwhile, Spurs's hopes of signing Samuel Eto'o have been dashed after the Barcelona striker admitted he is looking for a bigger challenge.
"Tottenham, and I hope the English fans will forgive me, are a club in mid-table and I need more," Eto'o told CRTV.
"I insist that I have a contract with Barcelona until 2010 and I feel great at the club."
However, Eto'o has hinted that he would be keen to join Jose Mourinho's revolution at Internazionale.
Mourinho is ready to ring the changes at the Giuseppe Meazza this summer and, having attempted to sign Eto'o while in charge at Chelsea, the Portuguese could renew his interest.
"I cannot exclude the option of Inter, but I want to repeat that I still feel I am at Barcelona and that I feel under no pressure," Eto'o concluded.

spurs have made a nice move by signing giovani do santos , he is a gifted player, hope spurs will make good use of him. if it arsenal it wuld have been different case bcos he santos would have been celebrating bcos arsenal is a place called of any super star to be and who is also well knowm. up arsenal, the premiership next season is for us..
welcome ramsey and our new golden boy samir nasir
Yeah yeah dream on dazza, thats never going to happen, face it another UEFA spot next season and a meaningless trophy and u yids will be delighted.
Why is everyone obsessed with sticking new signings out on the right wing??
From what I hear, Dos Santos is two-footed... can play just as well on the left OR right side - and through the middle... which means that he will get more opportunities to start.
With him on the left or through the middle, with Lennon on the right wing (and hopefully spent the summer learning to look up and miss the first man with his crosses) we can expect to score even more goals than last season - or at least win more games because of the chances created.
With service and flair like that ... Berbatov can do what he likes I feel... as Keane, Bent and Modric will snap up the chances created with delight.
If Bent can stay injury free... he will get close to the 20 goals he got in a struggling Charlton side a few years back.... and Berbatov should think seriously about what he could achieve in a side with this much flair and ability to create chances - and focus on finishing a little more consistently than last season, as well as keeping the ball, and not sulking when he should be running....
its this year or never 4 champions league make sure berb stays
I do support arsenal, but i am very disappointed with arsenal academy under 11.
Every FC in Europe's has got a teams starting from age 9,10, 11, 12.
Arsenal and Tottenham don't have the team of young kids, kids they have to go and train in community soccer schools. SHAME ON YOU ARSENAL FC.
I have a satellite dish and sometimes i see Spanish football starting from 10,11,12,13,14 years old. Italians TV French TV German TV Turkish TV they all have Young teams they also play in stadiums. In England young kids can't play in stadiums.
I remember one interview of Ian Wright when he said that he start playing football when he was 15 years old. Common. How can you be a good and successful player when you are not born for it.
England will never have success in football if you don't start to give more attention to very young football players age 10years old. Because they are the one who will be real Champions and Winners.

Spurs just signed another Berbatov. Santos leaveing Supurs just matter of time.
dos santos looks to be a great player, but the fact is that spurs would have to spend another 30mil r so for their youth players 2 b at the same level as arsenal's..and walcott the ENGLISH player is twice the player dos santos is at the minute.
after all sed and dun we knocked you out of carling cup and we did it in style. call yourself a english club u aint got 1 english player in it.
WHAT TIME IS eNGLAND PLAYING TONIGHT? ARE THEY ALREADY QUALIFIED FOR THE FINAL? FUNNY ENOUGH I HAVEN`T SEEN THEM PLAYING AT THE EURO 2008...OHOHOHOH
I HAVE BEEN A SPURS FAN FOR ALL MY LIFE(67YRS), BUT HAVE NEVER EVER RUN ANOTHER TEAM DOWN. THE MAIN THING IS "THE GAME", NOT ALL THIS NASTY FEELING FOR ANOTHER TEAM THAT OFTEN BEATS US, BUT WITHOUT WHO, WE WOULD NOT BE PLAYING. I DO NOT MEAN JUST THE HIGHBURY LOT, BUT ALL TEAMS THAT WE PLAY AGAINST.
spurs surprise me they talk of finishing above arsenal as an arsena fan l do not stoop so low to say want to finish above a certain team without even mentioning the league. Arsenal their man aim is to win the league if spurs want to do better they better start focusing on winning the league and champions league. oops sorry didnt realise spurs are not in the champions league. Maybe you can focus on defending the carling cup
no no no i never said adebayor was better than henry, i just think henry is passed his best and adebayor is approaching his best, adebayor scored more goals than berbatov last season and yet u think berba is best in the world, god silkyspur what planet are u on, dont think i wanna continue this anymore i have a life to get to, and i feel very confident i won my argument, im really going to sleep well tonight.
noddy.the entire histories of arsenal and spurs are pretty even sucess wise. i concede that the late 90's and early 00's were a time when the gooners were out of our league. but the previous 40 decades were predominantly lillywhite. you also have some class players, fabregas, gallas and adebayor. but so do we, no one can deny berbatov is one of the best forwards around. keanes reccord speaks for itself and ledley king, although not his best at the mo, on his day, he is an awsome centre back. no less imposing than gallas. last season was a failure for arsenal. a good squad and a good start should have led to a good trophey haul. but it didnt. spurs one the least important cup probably in the world! even less important than the johnstons paint trophy. maybe. so in terms of sucess, spurs came out on top last season. i genuinley believe that next season spurs and arsenal we be as close as they have ever been. so we shall see what happens. a spurs-arsenal f.a cup final would surely settle the debate. you cant argue with that
Adebayor is not even on the same footballing planet as henry. the geezer took teams apart on his own, adebayor has a half decent season and now hes better than henry, do u need glasses. i totally forgot u didnt win anything the year b4 as well, now i can sleep better 2nite. going to watch the spain game now, maybe we can continue this theological raving later.
Marco Rossi - if you can't handle the heat get out of the kitchen mate! Spurs suck!
well said silkyspur its just a shame ur a yid, i admire the fact u have followed them for a while and have stuck up 4 them 4 the last 30 years, it must have been hard with the redside of north london having all the glory since wenger took over, i guess in a way u desrved ur 5-1 win, i thought the u deserved something from game before that when almunia saved keanes pen.
i think giovani is a great signing but iam worried whats gonna happen to our english lads like lennon jenas and huddlestone, we need to keep these lads happy as well as trying to play the new boys too, hopefully berbatov will stay, the board should offer him the earth to stay cos hes the best forward we've had since greavsies days, although keano is pretty good too.
marco rossi, i enjoy my slanging matches with the yids, by the way silkyspur we hadn't won anything for the last 2 years that henry was with us, id rather have adebayor now anyway, well ur a spurs fan u have seen what he can do, im starting to like bencornelius, i (s) hut him up with football comments, and he comes tearing back at me with an english lesson, but to be honest i cant blame him, i would do the same thing if i were a yid.
where would we be if spurs and ar5ena1 fans stopped slagging each other off, thats half the fun isnt it. seriously ive been watching spurs for 30 years and the fact is in the last few years ar5ena1 have only just started to eclipse wot we done in days of old, then all the hangers on start coming out the woodwork saying they are better than spurs when they have probably never even been to a game, sky sports doesnt count.
