Hewitt eases through at Queen's

Eurosport - Thu, 11 Jun 09:43:00 2009

Four-times Queen's champion Lleyton Hewitt took just 44 minutes to down Argentine Eduardo Schwank 6-1 6-0 in the first round of the 2009 event.

2009 ATP Queen's Lleyton Hewitt - 0

Hewitt - champion from 2000-2002 and also in 2006 - won 12 consecutive games as he made an impressive start to the grasscourt season.

"He didn't serve that poorly but I made him play a lot of balls," the 28-year-old former world number one said.

The Australian was back on court later in the day, teaming up with British number one Andy Murray in the doubles tournament.

They saved a match point en route to defeating Rajeev Ram and Andy Roddick 3-6 6-3 12-10 to set up a meeting with Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach in the next round.

Murray - given a bye in the first round - will meet Andreas Seppi in the second round following the Italian's 5-7 7-6 6-3 defeat of Robby Ginepri.

Perhaps the most impressive performance of the day came from Frenchman Nicolas Mahut who downed Janko Tipsarevic 6-0 6-4.

Mahut is no stranger to Queen's having had a match point against Andy Roddick in the 2007 final.

Roddick, like Murray, was given a bye in the first round and will meet Kristof Vliegen who overcame Leonardo Mayer 7-6 6-4.

From a British perspective there was little good news as Josh Goodall and James Ward both fell in straight sets, to Gilles Muller (6-3 7-6) and Marcos Baghdatis (6-2 6-3) respectively.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Michael Llodra, Ivan Ljubicic and Feliciano Lopez.

Clearly this piece of news is the anticlimax after the great Rolland Garros we watched last fortnight. Hewitt will go nowhere. He will keep filling the numbers. Looser
