Real Madrid general director Jorge Valdano claims the club are already in negotiations with Manchester United over Cristiano Ronaldo.
Reports in Spain suggest that new Madrid president Florentino Perez has been in talks with the Premier League club and are on the verge of a world record £85 million deal just days after bringing Kaka to the Bernabeu for £58m.
Valdano told TVE: "I can only talk about players who are on their way here, not about those we are in negotiations over. He is a great professional, he dedicates a very great deal of time to his work. He is a great footballer and a very good professional."
Ronaldo has been enjoying the close season, spending time in Sardinia and Los Angeles. The 24-year-old obviously enjoys the trappings of his fame, but Valdano insists he is still the perfect player for Madrid.
"According to the information we have managed to obtain, he is an excellent professional," he added.
"You don't get the player's body he has, which is a footballing advertisement, without working a great deal.
"Another thing is that his reputation as an officially good-looking guy, and a social or advertising model, blurs his image a bit. He is a great footballer."
Speculation has been rife in the Spanish capital about new arrivals at the Bernabeu ever since the return of Perez, who presided over the famous 'Galacticos' era at the club. And while they are reportedly ready to pay 89 million euros for Ronaldo, Valdano has revealed they will not break the bank for Valencia striker David Villa.
"He is an excellent striker but he has a prohibitive price," he said. "He is a player who interests us, but only at a reasonable price. There's a long way to the start of the season and the summer is very long - these comings and goings will be very interesting.
"They have written about hundreds of players who dream about coming to Real Madrid and it's logical that one of those will end up in the side."

Ps 47...Your spelling in 2 sentences in that post were atrocious...May your god forgive you for being that inadequate on his behalf...Either that or English isn't your first language and you're an asylum seeker trying to fit into western culture...Yes I do support BNP...problem with that?
47, you sound sanctimonious, give up your job and sell your PC and send the proceeds to help those in 3rd world countries...Better still go there yourself. As an atheist myself I wont waste the one chance of life giving a damn about other people other than those close members of my family and friends...That is what life is all about...If it wasn't then we'd all be pope, Bono etc..

Let me rephrase back my earlier comment,
I'd rather see how Real Madrid perform next season than watching Man Utd performing without Cristiano Ronaldo
because Man Utd will survive without Ronaldo even though I hate to admit it (sigh)
Real will be a total joke if they just win 1 or 2 titles with their so called 'Galacticos' next season, oops, my bad, Real are already a JOKE!

I'm not Man U supporter. Although I can understand all Man U fans would be heart broken with this news ( I would be heart broken if Torres left LFC), but please always remember the great things he has bring to Old Trafford. As we all know, he is a great fan of RM, so maybe it is time for him to follow his dream to play for his supported club and maybe bring success to the club.

As a united fan, I'm not dissapointed in seeing him go. Good luck to him as he has been the best player the prem lge has seen & won everything he could with united. He wants to play for the team he supported all his life so let him do so.
The only problem i have with this transfer is that you will now have the best 3 players in the world (kaka, messi, ron) playing in spain & none in the prem lge (which is the best & biggest lge in the world). The closest the prem lge will have is Gerrard & Rooney (who are not quite in the same category as messi, kaka & CRon).
I don't think spanish football in general deserves to have the top players playing there (other than at Barce).
and good riddance
tve spanish national tv has just announced that the deal has been done - ronaldo is now a madrid player, good luck to him
comment 32 what about all the money barca spent last summer. Sour grapes
So much for Ferguson not being prepared to sell Real Madrid a virus let alone Ronaldo...I reckon his days as manager are numbered now. He's been undermined and been made to look a fool.
bye bye cristiano...thank you for your efforts skill and hard work ..all man united fans were delighted to have you, wont forget you and if that is what you want ...well go for it....glory glory man united and tevez will be staying!
All United fans who said Ronaldo is not for sale will eat their words. I have always said it and will say it again. Plorentino Perez can get any player in the world.
Yawn, boring. boring. This has been going on for years.
real madrid keep spending all this money but never win the big one the champions league they should take a look at barca. 7 of their first team players are products of the youth squad they dont get paid to sponsor unicef on their shirts and the club is owned by the fans AND they have one the trebble. Get real, real!!!
