Transfers - Your view: Aguero right for Chelsea?

Eurosport - Thu, 11 Jun 08:57:00 2009

Sergio Aguero has emerged as a reported target for Chelsea, but is the Argentinian the right man for the Blues?

2009 Argentina Sergio Aguero - 0

He may only be 21 years old but having scored 17 goals for Atletico Madrid last season, he certainly knows where the goal is.

And with Didier Drogba still to commit his future to the Stamford Bridge club, it is easy to see why Chelsea want the man dubbed the 'new Maradona' at Stamford Bridge.

But his wage demands could prove a sticking point. According to reports, Aguero is demanding an enormous £6.5m a year after tax, a figure that would net him nearly £11m a season - even more than what Kaka is getting a Real Madrid.

Is he worth that kind of money? Is anyone?

Who else might Chelsea target if that amount proves too much, even for Roman Abramovich?

Hagensigurdsson: "Chelsea do not need big signings. What the club needs is a decent midfielder to replace aging Ballack, and a striker, with a potential of becoming team's main attacking force. Our reserve team has players like Di Santo, Woods, Kakuta, Sinclair, Mancienne, Stoch. Those kids need to be played, they have to receive first team action, so that in a couple of yers time, they could become first team regulars."

David J: "Chelsea need (a) one or two strikers given the imminent suspension of The Drog (Aguero and Villa), (b) a creative midfielder (Pato) and (c) a wide right player (Ribery, though he has mainly played wide left for Bayern). Kalou hasn't made the grade and wants out, so let him go, along with Belletti and Ferreira. Di Santo, Mancienne and Stoch need to be played more - in the Carling Cup. With an eye to Napoleon's 6+5 plans (urgh!), we should snap up Ashely Young while we can and turn him into the great player he is destined to become."

Andrew P: "Chelsea should go for Ribery at all costs and try for Van der Vaarr or Robben from Real Madrid along with another striker... but who?"

sloany_14: "The players who should go are: Belletti, Deco, Ferriera, Hilario, Pizarro, Malouda, Minero, Carvalho and Ballack. For all nine of those players we should get at least £50 million for them. So over all we will have a good balance between youth and experience and the flair of young and Aguero that will keep roman happy and no one will be able to say that we bought the title."

arseni250: "Chelsea only should buy Zlatan Ibrahimovich and Yuri Zhirkov. Ballack still has a one year contract and we still have Mikel and Belletti to back him up."

Dylan: "Chelsea need to buy a fast striker like Aguero or Villa. They also need someone like Ribery, who has the speed and skills to take it round players. Only Coley has that and he in on the verge of a move to Spurs."

bring him in. Idf its a striker its gotta be him or villa. and because of his age it decides it for me!

sign him up and get a winger and a young left back, keeper and centre mid and were sorted.

  16. To be respected by other footballing nations worldwide we need english palyers in our team. we have a few great english players but it would be great to have more. Whats the point in signing zhirkov when we could sign young talented english wingers like ashley young and lennon. i no 4 sure that if barca or madrid spot any young spanish talent they snap them up, giving them priority over foreign players.
A Young, Lennon, Tomkins, G Johnson, Sturridge, Micah Richards. Im not saying to sign them all but a few would be good for now and future.
Also we need midfielder to challenge Ballack. Juan Mata would be quality, gr8 young spanish player, which could be prized away from valencia for the right price. We also need a striker, Aguero or Pato would be quality, both have pace and amazing technical ability. Chelsea want to sign players who like and love the club and want to make us successful. Ribery and Villa do not, they both want to play is spain. Both are far to over priced any way. We need maybe 5 new signings and sell all old players.

  17. I think if i was manager at Chelsea, id start looking at the young home grown talent now instead of going ape with the overseas players, if they bring in a cap like they said they are planning, many prem teams will have big problems, just look at arsenal, how many english in that squad? 2 or 3 i think, Chelsea have a few english players but are not getting any younger and not much in the way of youngsters coming through academy, hope Carlo gets this sorted, would like to be proud and cheer more for a home grown player for once.

  18. I think Chelsea should focus on English players, the likes of Ashley Young, Sturridge, and Glen Johnson would do. Plus, we need a powerful center midfielder to replace Ballack, I'd suggest Van Der Vaart or someone like that. Now the problem is basically in the forward positions. It all depends on how Ancelloti's system is, and judging from the looks of it he might just stick with one lone striker seeing that he will play a defensive game. So, overloading the squad with strikers might be a bad move, but I would suggest bringing in Pato as a BIG SIGNING for the time being cuz we already have a good forward line with the likes of Drogs and Anelka. Now come the selling: Deco, Caravalho, Belleti, Sheva, Pizzaro, Ferriera should leave. As for Malouda I think he should stay becuz he was impressive under Guus, lets hope he will stay like that. Finally, the Chelsea management should start giving the young player some first team play. Mancienne, Di Santo, Stoch, and all of them should at least play in the relatively easy games. Thats how i see things. C'mon CHELSEAAAA

  19. sorry mis-spelled that, its Kyle Naughton from sheff u, 21 years old and an england u21 player, very fast and a good defender, made up some ground to get in a vital tackle against Burnley, very impressive.

  20. id keep my eyes on Norton at Sheff UTD, he is one for the future and had a good game in the play off final. I dont know much about Zhirkov but they make him out to be a good player on the left which would suit us bacause now bridge has gone we only have ash cole and malouda who are natural left sided players.
