As Rafael Benitez downgrades his summer transfer targets, Ryan Babel has made it clear he does not want to leave Anfield while two Spanish youngsters have been linked with the club as part of a reported possible deal to take Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid.
Increased financial restraints suggest the Liverpool boss is now looking at a different level of players to bring to Merseyside. And he has also intimated Babel still has a future at Liverpool, despite claims earlier in the summer the Dutch winger would be allowed to speak to other clubs.
Babel, who now has confirmation Holland will be taking part in next summer's World Cup finals after recent qualifying results, is seemingly a player Benitez wants to retain rather than sell to raise transfer market cash.
And there are again claims from Spain that once new Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has turned his attentions from signing Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo, Alonso will once again be a target. Perez has made no secret of his desire to sign Alonso, and although he admitted such a move would be difficult, it did not stop the wily operator from naming him in his dream Real Madrid XI.
Sources in Spain are now suggesting two Real youngsters could be part of a deal to take Alonso to the Bernabeu, despite Benitez's continued insistence the player is not for sale, and has three years left on his contract.
But if Alonso, currently on Confederation Cup duty with Spain, intimates he wants to become involved in a second wave of Galactico signings in Madrid, then Benitez may have to consider the best deal for Liverpool. Benitez would want big money for Alonso, approaching £30million, but Spanish sports paper AS claim that strikers Alvaro Negredo and Alberto Bueno could be included in any deal.

All of those players you mentioned are pass their sell-by dates and that's why LFC has sold them or let them leave for free. We need fresh faces in with the already amazing team we already have, just 3-4 additions. I'd like to see Villa, Silva and Johnson at LFC next season.

selling alonso for the right price would be a clever move. we would need to change the formation as he can not be directly replaced but with 20m plus negredo i think we cold then buy glen jonhson and juan mata aswell as some premier league players to give us the depth we need. sad to see him go but nothing can take teh smile off my face now ronaldo is leaving this wonderful island.
The last thing Liverpool should do is to sell players. Liverpool now have a small squad. They only have good 1st team players but in the bench like N'Gog, El Zhar, Dossena are just rubbish. Compare to the likes of Man Utd and Chelsea, they have good players in the bench with quality. Liverpool should also keep Lucas. He seems to be improving and looks a good prospect in the future. Last player we need is Richard Dunne, he's a feckin pit pony...strength and effort do not = class!! We need a gifted, playmaker, forward. Think Luis Garcia (only consistent). Someone who can turn a game on his own. I know these guys are a bit of a luxury but it's the missing piece in the Jigsaw. Remember, we sold Crouch, Keane and loaned out Vornin and still haven't replaced one of them. Ngog might be promising but he's nowhere near ready. Skillful forward please Rafa, spend big on one player rather 3 average ones.

In my opinion, Liverpool needs just a 'number 10'! The team is already there! Bring up some fresh n hungry young talents and get a number 10! Maxi Moralez, Aguero, Silva or even Voronin! Every one of them will be suitable!
F**king american twats.... all this talk of Liverpool becoming a solid force in the transfer market and suddenly out of nowhere these massive debts arrive screwing up our whole summer plans. Alonso and Mascherano have been solid this season with Alonso showing the promise that everyone was looking for after we signed him. He is no Fabregas but he can pick a pass as good as anyone in the world on his day. What Liverpool need for next season is not going to happen. Where we fell down last year was undoubtedly when Gerrard and Torres were injured. We are in short supply of back up fire power which was nearly on the way in the form of David Silva until 2 Colonel Sanders' showed up. Would Benitez ever consider Richard Dunne in defence?? He has been in outstanding form for his country during the wc qualifying campaign and in my opinion he is as good as any defender in the league if not the world...

LFC 09-10 squad: Reina, Gulacsi - Arbeloa, Darby, Skrtel, Carragher, Agger, Taylor(Newcastle), Aurelio, Insua - Mascherano, Alonso, Gerrard, Lucas, Spearing, Riera, Benayoun, M.Moralez(Velez S.)or D.Silva(Valencia) - Kuyt, Torres, Aguero(Atl.M.), Babel, Ngog. Or, if Taylor and Aguero not, then bring up from the reserves Irwin or San Jose and Nemeth too! Sell: Cavalieri, Dossena, Degen, Plessis, Pennant, Leto, El Zhar, Voronin! But dont need to change the key players!
I love Liverpool and don't care for Babel as long as Alonso and Mascerano stay
