Borthwick: Victory is all that matters

Thu 11 Jun, 09:35 AM

Steve Borthwick will mark his 50th cap on Saturday by demanding England win at all costs - no matter how ugly.

England thumped Argentina 37-15 at Old Trafford in last weekend's opening Test but their kicking tactics drew loud boos from the a crowd hoping to be entertained. Yet they still ran in three tries to increase their tally to 23 from seven matches this year, averaging just over three per game.

"Our job is to win Test matches. You have to find the best way to win a Test match," he said. "You have your tactics going in but you must have the ability to change your approach within a game."

He added: "We ran the ball and kicked the ball at the right times against Argentina. It was great game management from us.

"Everyone has their opinion, but we wanted to win that Test match and that's what we did.

"Our job is to get points on the board and win matches. That's what we'll try and do this Saturday.

"Look at the Six Nations - we scored more tries than anyone else. We played good rugby against France and played well in spells against Scotland.

"Against Argentina we won the try count 3-0 - it's not often that happens.

"On Saturday we showed we can play in different ways. You win Tests in any way you can."
