Lescott urges Wolves to spend

Former Wolves defender Joleon Lescott has urged the club to back manager Mick McCarthy in the transfer market this summer in order to stay in the Barclays Premier League.

Lescott, who left Molineux to join Everton for £5million in 2006 after making 235 appearances for the club, was part of the last Wolves squad to win promotion to the top-flight in 2003.

Although he missed the Premier League campaign through injury, the England centre-back feels a failure to strengthen the playing staff was the main reason Wolves finished bottom and endured an immediate return to the second tier.

"At the time we got promoted we had a lot of experience in there, but the squad was not backed up as we thought it would be and we didn't look to progress," he told the Express & Star "We thought we had enough, obviously we didn't.

"But now Wolves have a new squad and hopefully this bunch of players is younger and fresher and will be good enough to stay up.

"When the fixtures come out in the next couple of weeks the Wolves games will be the first I look for. I can't wait for the day we play Wolves and I am hoping I will get a warm reception from the fans."

    We are only half way through the­ summer, and have allready bought a good player in­ Milijas.
    There are pleanty of players out there and in­ the coming weeks the club shop will be printing that­ many new names on the back of shirts for the express­ and star back page photo, they wont know whats hit­ em.
    Don't get me wrong, i dislike moxey as much as­ the next wolves fan (especially after the pie and pint­ fiasco) but you gotta say one thing, he has kept us in­ the black!

    Oh and 'stevebullisgod'.....did you­ mean steve MORGAN? well he aint exactly gonna waltz in­ and fire off £30m straight off is he? The guy is a­ businessman, and im sure he will want to keep wolves in­ the Prem so he can earn money! Sir Jack is a legend for­ what he did for our club, but his 'throw the cheque­ book at it' gung ho approach was obviously not­ getting us anywhere.....do io have to remind­ you?,,,,,,steve claridge, tony daley, flo, and all the­ other wage slaves?

    Wolves are doing a great­ job.....just calm down and wait for the players to­ start rolling in.

  2. Moxey believes his own publicity that "he is"­ WWFC... The fans don't forget the farce that was­ the last journey into the top flight.. Even back in­ that Pre season The comments of Rachel Heyhoe Flint,­ representing the club on Talk Sport, "we will not­ put this club into debt to buy players ..we have enough­ quality to finish mid table"..Yeah­ right..We've heard it all before Moxey..You have a­ Pre Season and a transfer window to put up or shut up.

  4. i thought that when steve gibson brought us for the­ bargain price of a tenner he would promise to invest a­ sum of no less tham 30mill. as we allready have a class­ stadium and superb training facilities the only thing i­ can think to buy is the kind of players we need to stay­ where we truly belong. it has been too long for us to­ wait for this to get where we are, with i believe one­ of the strongest squads and best manager we have had in­ a very long time. please for the sake of all WOLVES­ FANS EVERYWHERE! dont screw it up again! i.e sack moxey­ please! p.s i dont suppose joleon wants to come back to­ us?

    pete-jolean was­ part of our youth academy-his heart is still with the­ molineux-he knows who give him his break and he­ won't forget it.

    as for moxey-we have told him-if­ we go down because of his tight arsed attitude we will­ have him out of the shrine.

  8. apparently moxey has blocked 3 moves already by mick as­ he has a set budget of 4mil including wages . if this­ is tru then he has to go now . same old moxey its gonna­ be a right mess he only wnts frees on low wages .we­ will probably end up with cheltenham towns has beens .­ GET RID OF HIM NOW
