Megson wants craft, not graft

Gary Megson wants to change the Bolton dynamic and see his team become easier on the eye.

While Megson was pleased at the way his side competed last season, he is keen for a new beginning and is determined to attract players who can perhaps offer craft rather than graft this summer.

"We have got to emphasise on the quality of the players that we bring in," said the Bolton boss.

"I would like to change the style that we play as I felt that was one of the reasons the club struggled last season," he added.

"We had to take it back a little bit, get the results at times and not play in the way we would have liked.

"There were some really good performances, but some really dour, grinding performances where we've got results. But it was all about getting those results.

"Hopefully we can use this summer to bring in players who can play a different type of game while still getting the results and maybe more of them."

Megson added: "During the last transfer window, we wanted it to be a lot busier. But January is a really difficult time to sign players because most clubs want to hold on to them.

"Despite that, we managed to bring Mark Davies in (from Wolves), which we were really pleased about.

"The serious work, I feel, in the most important window is going to be this one. We now need to make sure the emphasis is really on bringing them in to help us push on."
