Rodgers: Royals will challenge

Thu 11 Jun, 11:49 AM

New manager Brendan Rodgers maintains the current Reading squad is good enough to cope with a loss of players and still challenge for promotion next season.

A number of Reading's leading players, including Stephen Hunt and Kevin Doyle, have been linked with a move away from the Madejski stadium this summer.

But Rodgers believes the club can cope with any high-profile departures.

"One of the big attractions in me coming here was the players," he told the club's official website.

"The squad just missed out on the Premier League and will be disappointed not to have gone up. There are not a lot of adjustments to be made, even if we were to lose players.

"I know the squad well, it's a very good squad. Even if there was nobody to come in, it's a squad that can challenge and be up there."
