Rangers boss Walter Smith says Fulham are pricing Steven Davis out of a permanent move to Ibrox by putting a £4million tag on his head.The Gers are stepping up their search for a new midfielder following Barry Ferguson's injury setback - but Smith has warned that Fulham may price them out of a permanent deal for Davis.

The Cottagers are said to want £4million for the Northern Ireland international, who impressed on loan at Ibrox in the second half of last season.

"We've been looking for another midfielder anyway so we have an idea of players who are out there and available," said Smith.

"Steve Davis is obviously a player we know, but the money Fulham are talking about is too much for us."
