Brighton & Hove Albion stalwart Gary Hart is refusing to give up on securing a new contract with the south-coast outfit. The 31-year-old, who has played in defence, midfield and attack in his 10 years with the Seagulls, was told by previous manager Dean Wilkins at the end of last season that his contract would not be renewed.
New boss Micky Adams has allowed Hart to continue training with the club, however, although he did not take part in this week's trip to Ireland where Albion drew 0-0 with Athlone Town.
But the player who signed from Stansted for £1,000 and a set of tracksuits knows he will be taking part in at least one pre-season game - his testimonial against Charlton in a fortnight - and has not given up hope of persuading Adams he is worth another contract.
"I have spoken to the gaffer about my future and those talks have been encouraging," he said.
"I'm hoping I can persuade him I'm worth a new deal, but whatever the outcome I am grateful that he's let me come back for pre-season and given me the chance."
