Hearts striker Gary Glen is determined to continue his progress by impressing his new manager as the club finally close in on an appointment. The Edinburgh club on Thursday opened talks with Uganda boss Laszlo Csaba after the Romanian-born coach flew in to the capital.
Hearts confirmed they had received permission from the Ugandan FA to speak to their national coach, who was formerly in charge of Hungarian side Ferencvaros.
While majority shareholder Vladimir Romanov's search for a boss entered its seventh month, the players have returned for pre-season training under the guidance of fitness coach Tom Ritchie.
Caretaker boss Stephen Frail's departure, which was confirmed on Wednesday after two weeks on gardening leave, had left the players without a leader.
And while Romanov brought in sporting director Anatoly Korobochka and former assistant coach Angel Chervenkov to oversee training, Glen is desperate for a permanent manager to be appointed.
Hearts begin their SPL season against Motherwell on August 9 but face their first friendly on Monday night against Glentoran in Belfast.
They then travel to Germany for a training camp and teenager Glen wants to impress the club's new boss long before the visit of Motherwell.
"The most important thing is to try to get a manager in before the start of the season," Glen said.
"Everyone has to try to impress a new manager and try to get into their squad.
Glen will miss the opening SPL match after being sent off against Gretna in May, while knee condition Osgood's Schlatter disease has restricted him to one training session per day while his team-mates have double.
But the 18-year-old is eager to get back into the action after scoring two goals when he burst into the first team at the end of last season.
"Training has gone all right, Tom Ritchie has got us going," Glen told Hearts World.
"I am looking forward to the game in Ireland, if I go, and hopefully I get to to to Germany as well.
"I need to get my match fitness and sharpness back up."
