Scunthorpe United have agreed a deal to sign young striker Gary Hooper from League One rivals Southend for an undisclosed fee.The 20-year-old will put pen to paper on a three-year deal at Glanford Park subject to passing a medical.

The Iron have beaten a number of clubs, including Hereford, Cheltenham and Barnet, in the chase for Hooper and are thought to have paid in excess of £100,000.

A former Tottenham trainee, Hooper joined the Shrimpers in 2006 from Grays Athletic and made 44 appearances for Steve Tilson's side, mostly as a substitute, scoring four goals.

He rose to prominence on loan at Hereford last season, banging in 11 goals in 19 games to help fire the Bulls to promotion from League Two.
