Gillingham chief executive Mark Jones is confident the club will earn promotion out of League Two at the first attempt. The Gills are in the bottom tier for the first time since 1996 after being relegated last season, but Jones believes manager Mark Stimson has built a squad capable of getting back into League One - and that the feelgood factor will reverberate around the club.
"These players are going to find this level is the right level for them bearing in mind the combination of players last year," he said.
"Mark came in halfway through but he's starting afresh, the spirit's good and I think we'll do well. We'll come out of this division straight away.
"I think we should be trying to get promoted. I think we've got to be at the top end of the table all year and get promoted. That's the target, that's the challenge and that's what we should be trying to do.
"It has a massive effect on the whole business, in terms of gate, in terms of corporate and everything else. Football clubs in their regions can generate feelgood factors which is what it's about."
