Rangers are expected to step up their search for a new midfielder after captain Barry Ferguson was ruled out for up to four months with an ankle injury but boss Walter Smith has warned that Fulham may price them out of a permanent deal for Steven Davis.
The Barclays Premier League club are said to want £4million for the Northern Ireland international, who impressed on loan at Ibrox in the second half of last season.
"We've been looking for another midfielder anyway so we have an idea of players who are out there and available," the former Scotland manager added.
"Steve Davis is obviously a player we know, but the money Fulham are talking about is too much for us."

is the posts on here a sign that the tims are scared already... they should be more concerned with still havin strachan in charge and not be botherin with who rangers have or havent signed... the 4th is not a formality... just make sure the trophy is polished to perfection and has no grubby wee paw prints on it when it returns to Ibrox.
I concede, the rotten mob were better on that day.we played very bad.but the league dont lie. we were the best & have been for 3 yrs..... the 4th is a formality.hail hail.
kerrigan159. To easy you say? It wasn't that when you lot were desperate for a new manager half way through the season. 10 points behind and out of every cup competition. Your teams horrible cup form ended up as a blessing in disguise.
If Rangers get knocked out early. We'll dominate the league and the 2 cups.
Celtic are to easy. 3-0 was not a true reflection of just how badly we wrecked you lot.
yous might as well buy him and add him to the rest of the @#$% yous have in the team. three in a row!!!!!!!!! lets make it 4!!!!!!!!to easy.
get him bought , sell lafferty and miller to pay for him or maybe some of the money you picked up last season stop being tight . terry cumbria
