Tough Choice For Ronaldo - Becks

Fri 11 Jul, 12:09 PM

David Beckham believes Cristiano Ronaldo has an "incredibly difficult choice" to make between staying at Manchester United or joining Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, who has this summer spelt out his "dream" of playing for the Spanish giants, has agreed with Sepp Blatter's claim that there is "modern slavery" in the transfer market.

"I agree with the comments of the president of FIFA. What he said is right," the 23-year-old winger told Portuguese channel TVI.

Beckham, who swapped the north west for the Spanish capital in 2003, believes United are every inch the equals of Real.

"When I left Manchester United the only other club I wanted to play for was Real Madrid," the England midfielder told Sky Sports News.

"Living in Madrid and playing for Madrid - there's not many better clubs than that apart from Manchester United, which is equal.

"But to have those two choices is good for him."

Beckham added in The Sun: "Playing for Manchester United was my dream but so was playing for Real. It was an incredibly difficult choice to make and I'm sure it is the same for Cristiano."

(re-opens) Meanwhile, Beckham has claimed he is not surprised Madrid are reportedly willing to offer in the region of £80million to land Ronaldo.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport: "There is so much money surrounding football that it no longer surprises me.

"Evidently, there are some teams that have that kind of money to invest.

"Places like Old Trafford or the Bernabeu Stadium are unique in the world."

The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder also hailed Ronaldo's impact last season, saying: "I would give the Golden Ball (world player of the year) award to Cristiano Ronaldo. He has been incredible this year."

  2. I'll tell you the reason ManU wants to keep Ronaldo. It's virtually inevitable that Cristiano Ronaldo will be the FIFA World Player Of the Year 2008...ManU wants to keep Ronaldo so that when he is named the best player of the year he'll be playing in the English Premier League and with Manchester United. If they feel they need his services after that they'll keep him and if they don't, they will sell him to his "Dream" team.

  3. y can't he become like fabregas?madrid too wants him but he's loyal to the team!he knows how to appreciate the person who had trust in him in his early days, wenger i mean.

For me,united should not have a player like him as part of the team.regardless how good he is.
he will end up destroying the harmony of the team.
he's effing playing for himself and now claims that he's a slave?!!
    just buzz off!

  4. That's exactly my point shin.
CRon is gone, and will never be welcomed in either Man, or England for that matter, ever again. Why? Real Madrid is why. So, what to do? Sell him elsewhere...and better yet, to one of their bitter rivals.
    Frankly, it's a no brainer.

  6. do some off u that are writing MU off if ronaldo leaves i bet some of u are the same that wrote off MU when messrs robson cantona and keane left but MU are bigger than all of them in other words a big SUCCESSFUL club attracts big players and in players such as nani and anderson young players with a bright future to carry on the success at MU long live MU and their collection of trophies.

  11. Man U has no choice but to sell "poor" Ronaldo now. This may sound crazy, but I think that Man U will be better off without him. Great teams win championships, not great players. With the money that they can get from Real or Barca, Man U could probably improve the team even more.

  12. triplerltd; i would do the same. If i was sir alex i'd push the asking price upto £100m to real madrid, then sell ronaldo to barcelona for half. haha.

  19. good bye ronaldo i thought you was differnt but i was wrong yes you are the best player in the world at pressent...but every day im growing pure hate for you i would not like to see you in a red shirt ever again good luck for wot ever you do but remember who helped you to wot you are today....

From kevin, on Fri 11 Jul 5:35PM
  20. Slave? He should be embarassed by what he is saying, how far out of touch with reality is this ego maniac. Imagine if a football club had just won an advertisers CONTRACT to sponsor their shirts for 3 years. After one year the advertisers realise they can get a better deal with another club. Can they just pull out and take their advertising money elsewhere? Of course not, they like every other person/company who have signed a legally binding CONTRACT are bound by the contract.

So Ronaldo stop whinging about all this you are just a footballer, gifted yes, but just a footballer. Take your head out of the sand and spare a thought for the people that pay your wages, the supporters, who probably don't earn in 3 YEARS what you earn in 1 WEEK!!!!
