Tough Choice For Ronaldo - Becks

Fri 11 Jul, 12:09 PM

David Beckham believes Cristiano Ronaldo has an "incredibly difficult choice" to make between staying at Manchester United or joining Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, who has this summer spelt out his "dream" of playing for the Spanish giants, has agreed with Sepp Blatter's claim that there is "modern slavery" in the transfer market.

"I agree with the comments of the president of FIFA. What he said is right," the 23-year-old winger told Portuguese channel TVI.

Beckham, who swapped the north west for the Spanish capital in 2003, believes United are every inch the equals of Real.

"When I left Manchester United the only other club I wanted to play for was Real Madrid," the England midfielder told Sky Sports News.

"Living in Madrid and playing for Madrid - there's not many better clubs than that apart from Manchester United, which is equal.

"But to have those two choices is good for him."

Beckham added in The Sun: "Playing for Manchester United was my dream but so was playing for Real. It was an incredibly difficult choice to make and I'm sure it is the same for Cristiano."

(re-opens) Meanwhile, Beckham has claimed he is not surprised Madrid are reportedly willing to offer in the region of £80million to land Ronaldo.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport: "There is so much money surrounding football that it no longer surprises me.

"Evidently, there are some teams that have that kind of money to invest.

"Places like Old Trafford or the Bernabeu Stadium are unique in the world."

The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder also hailed Ronaldo's impact last season, saying: "I would give the Golden Ball (world player of the year) award to Cristiano Ronaldo. He has been incredible this year."

are u kidding me? u believe United won the league only because Ronaldo plays for us? what about the last 10? cos of Ronaldo? Bruv even with CR and Quieroz out of OT, Scousers will not carry the Cup this season. Maybe in4-5 years. But definitely not this season. Duh

  2. sidokhine, you're right, but problem is, Ronny IS spoiled - he can't handle fame and money. Money and fame has corrupted many before him. I don't mind if he leaves, but, esueni, we can win the title even if he stays!

  4. In any other line of work, if you have a contract for a period of time, with no notice period, then you are expected to work for that period of time. Why Ronaldo thinks the terms of his contract, or contractual laws don't apply to him, is symptomatic of a young person getting too much praise and too much money, leading to much arrogance. He has probably received poor advice from his greedy agent too.

If I was Manchester United I would keep him until he had a year to go on his contract then sell him to anyone except Real Madrid. I would also put a clause in the terms that the next club could not sell him to Real Madrid either.

  5. I am a United fan and still think ManUnt should really win Champions League in the new season because this year it was more Chelsea lost than United won. We should win like Premiere League with higher point’s difference, with real victory in the Final game and not like we did it this year. So I think Ronaldo, if he is that tough, can put it as a goal for the coming season and stop act like a spoiled girl. Stay and prove you are a Man and you are the best and not the one who can’t score the decisive penalty in CL final and then pray into the pitch grass.

  8. Not a good idea for Beck's to be getting involved! Difference is the boss did not want Beck's anymore which is why he allowed him to go to a team of pensioner's - we all know that it is different with his lordship
