Loeb fancies Bourdais seat

Five-times World Rally champion Sebastien Loeb would like to replace underperforming French compatriot Sebastien Bourdais at Formula One outfit Toro Rosso.

Citroen driver Loeb has seen his quest for a sixth crown fall apart recently, with crashes in Acropolis and Poland putting him a point behind Ford rival Mikko Hirvonen.

Loeb tested impressively for Toro Rosso's parent outfit Red Bull Racing in Barcelona last November and spent several hours at their UK headquarters in Milton Keynes three weeks ago.

Bourdais's top-flight career is under threat, with rumours that the multiple Champ Car king will be replaced by British F3 Champion Jaime Alguersuari - STR's test driver - following this weekend's German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring.

"If Toro Rosso need a driver I'd love to help out," Loeb, 35, told L'Equipe. "I've heard talk of this possibility regarding Sebastien Bourdais, but nothing has happened. I'd race instead of Sebastien Bourdais.

"Who knows: as long as the Formula One and rallying calendars don't overlap, anything is possible. If there is a place at Toro Rosso, I'm available."

I accede BaronVanReinhardt why this team only sign­ driver with first name sebastian, Loeb is too old and­ this season his title were in jeopardy cause he have­ some mishaps in some rally this year and I guess age­ get the best of him so he's not the perfect choice­ for them next year. why not scout for Vitaly petrov he­ is good.

  10. Dream on Loeb....Bruno Senna will be in the car for his­ warm up to his full season in 2010...and don't be­ surprised if Senna will be in either at Renault for­ Alonso who is going to Ferrari in 2010....or Senna will­ fill Vettel's seat if Ferrari can sign him ahead of­ Alonso!

    i suspect that­­ the mclaren ruffians must have been out the stealing­­ the other teams secrets again, because all of the­­ sudden they move up the field.
    they still have the two­­ rubbish drivers though, so their efforts will be in­ the­ veins.
    mr hamiltons son not good enough to drive­ the­ ice cream van let alone defend a title given to­ him by­ the mr glock and mr kovalinen has the no bottle­ at all.­ he not even worth a drive in the bumper car at­ the­ funfair. all he do is look bhind him to let mr­­ hamilt6ns son past.

  15. We know he can drive both LeMans and Indy Cars. He also­ did well in Monaco but has so far been outqualified by­ his rookie teammate. That's the main reason he­ should get the boot.

  16. Given that Loeb has shown success in the Race of­ Champions, might be an indication that he would be­ quite the competitor to reckon with. Just a matter of­ interest, I'd like to see him in an F1 car in the­ rain, and see how he would do, given his rally­ experience.
