Steven Gillespie is hoping he can show Colchester's fans what he is worth after a disappointing first season with the club.
The 24-year-old moved to Essex from Cheltenham last summer but suffered an injury-ravaged campaign, managing just five goals for Paul Lambert's side.
But after a long spell on the sidelines, he is raring to go ahead of the new season.
"It didn't work out for me," he told the East Anglian Daily Times. "I struggled with injuries, hopefully that's behind me now.
"I've been training with the lads for the last couple of weeks and we've put in some hard work. I feel good and strong."
