McLaren staying back in search of signings

Mon, 11 Jul 17:10:22 2011

Manager Steve McClaren may not join Nottingham Forest's pre-season training camp in Portugal because he is so worried by the club's lack of signings.

The Reds are due to fly out on Wednesday but the former England boss has so far only signed midfielder Andy Reid.

"I want to be with the team but I may have to stay rather than go to Portugal," McClaren told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"My most important job at the moment is to make sure we assemble a squad that can compete for promotion.

"I may have to stay behind and work with the chairman [Nigel Doughty] and Mark [Arthur] to make sure we get the right players in."

  1. I would bet they didn't even attempt to get Martin Oneil back to the city ground, he wouldn't have stood for their @#$% and they know it !!!!

  2. Mark I think you have a fair point, a lot can happen in football in a few days.
My main worry is the fact the manager is not there during pre season finding out about his team.
Steve is well known for his coaching ability and is not there to coach!

  3. Perhaps my post did not convey my sarcasm. I am not a doom monger just very frustrated!!
Mark he does not go to games as he posts when the matches are on. Perhaps Chris will turn his back on the computor screen as a boycot? lmfao

  4. calm down folks.

wait and see what happens instead of all the doom mongering again.

and Chris not sure you boycotting games, do you goto any anway?

I'll be there vs Barnsley & vs County in the cup, and throughout the season.. backing my team, not writing them off and planning protests.

  5. Maybe we should stand at the gates shaking our fists and shouting "boo" and "Down with the Board" I can take my son's old Forest shirt and burn it whilst wafting it around on a large pole.

  6. peter herbert. i have been saying this for months and was ticked off for it as a doom monger agree about the boycott though.we must force changes by staying away from games. chrisforestred.

  7. It looks like business as usual big talk no action. I get the feeling that a few weeks into the new season that McClaren will find that he has no new signings - apart from Reid - wishing that he had gone anywhere but the City Ground. They aren't going to mount a promotion push this season or even next season I think that the board has settled for life in the championship - it's much easier and cheaper.

  8. supported forest for 30 years and never known it so bad, is it a lack of investment or players not wanting to play for forest . we have a crowd of 25,000 every home game and have 4000 every away game , the ground is one of the better ones in the league and the facilities are good enough s o me thinks that the reputation of doughty and co and the mess platt left us in does not make it an attractive club to come to. we had a reputation of having a top class academy with such as dawson, jenas and co but even the academy is going to pot so we are left with trying to sign boeteng 36 and zenden 35 true long term prospects mmmmmmm i feel that we will struggle all season unless the root of it all is sorted out so we can have a fighting chance for promotion .

  12. Oh dear Mr Mclaren you believed what they told you. Mind you I shouldnt be too upset because season ticket holders havve fallen for the empty promises for years. They will all be there for the Barnsley game filling the coffers to pay for the likes of Pleat etc. A fool and his money are soon parted. We FOREST fans have fallen for it for too long BOYCOTT ANYBODY?

From peter herbert, on Tue 12 Jul 1:10
  13. you'll be the first manager that has worked with those 2 , if i was you i would go to portugal or rob a bank .
