Watford manager Adrian Boothroyd admits that he has shelved plans to sign Ecuadorian defender Ulises De La Cruz in order to bring in a striker.Boothroyd was set to offer the former Reading and Aston Villa player a deal after he impressed during a trial period in pre-season, but after the loss of frontmen Nathan Ellington, Steve Kabba and Darius Henderson he has decided a striker is his main priority.
He said: "I've explained the situation to De La. I'd like him to sign and I think we'll get to that eventually as time goes on.
"But I am after one player and it's more of a priority for me to get that striker in.
"Danny Shittu going has freed up the money to get one player in and I'm going to get on the phone and try and get him in.
"Tamas Priskin does need some help up there. I would like to bring someone in to give him a hand. But there won't be any others at present."
