Hammers are backing Curbs - Upson

Mon 11 Aug, 09:45 AM

West Ham defender Matthew Upson insists Alan Curbishley has the full backing of the Hammers squad ahead of the start of the new season.Curbishley has come in for criticism regarding his transfer dealings after big-money flop Freddie Ljungberg was released last week.

There have been suggestions that the Hammers chief is fighting for his job and that there is a split in the Hammers' dressing room.

But, ahead of the opening game of the season against Wigan on Saturday, Upson confirmed Curbishley has the support of the players.

"Curbs seems a bit more relaxed and he most definitely has the backing of the players," said Upson in The Sun.

"I can understand why he is under criticism. He's taken a job at a football club who had a huge financial injection.

"People expected big things at this place and, so far, those massive things have not been delivered.

"But people need to be aware that it is a process and no matter how much money you throw in, there has to be a foundation."

  1. Its a joke, another year of looking for 40 points to stay safe AGAIN..
Fed up with this, 10 years ago i was going every 2 or 3 weeks, last year i made about 8 games and see us win 2 of them! This year i doubt ill make 4..
Im not paying £44 to watch a pile of @#$% and see us lose again & again against low flight teams..
When will they learn? Foundation @#$% when your constantly ripping whatever morale or understanding the players build.. We need some new players.. Relying on Upson, bellamy & Ashton to do it.. so ashton ole & Sears upfront this season..
Yea i can see us scoring alot of goals NOT

  2. What money has been used!! Berami £5m and Thatcher on a free!!! The foundation has been set by other Premiership clubs on spendig and decent signings but not West Ham, again the true supporters have been left to watch either a relegation battle or a boring mid table finish! Where is the cash and more importantly for the fans that pay for the clubs existance what about a top flight team and a european finish!!!!!
