Hibs star recalled for Scots clash

Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington has named Hibernian star Dean Shiels in his squad for the first time for the friendly with Scotland.It is a welcome boost for 23-year-old midfielder Shiels, who won the last of his four caps 18 months ago in the 0-0 draw with Wales.

Burnley defender Michael Duff has been recalled after recovering from knee and hamstring injuries that hampered his progress last season.

Worthington has also included Keith Gillespie in his 20-man squad even though he is currently sidelined with an ankle injury.

The Sheffield United winger is understood to be making a good recovery and his fitness will be monitored over the course of the week.

Northern Ireland squad to face Scotland in a friendly at Hampden on August 20: Taylor (Birmingham), Mannus (Linfield); Baird (Fulham), Hughes (Fulham), Craigan (Motherwell), McAuley (Ipswich), McCartney (West Ham), Evans (Manchester United), Duff (Burnley); Davis (Fulham), Gillespie (Sheffield United), O'Connor (Crewe), Clingan (Norwich), Brunt (West Brom), Shiels(Hibernian); Healy (Fulham), Lafferty (Rangers), Thompson (Stockport), Feeney (Cardiff - on loan at Dundee United), Paterson (Scunthorpe).
