Pardew challenge to Fortune

Mon 11 Aug, 12:15 PM

Charlton boss Alan Pardew has urged defender Jonathan Fortune to build on an impressive opening-day display and cement his place in the side.Centre-half Fortune has struggled to hold down a regular spot at The Valley, but following Madjid Bougherra's move to Rangers he lined up alongside new signing Mark Hudson and helped the Addicks to a 2-0 win over Swansea.

"Jon can play for this club, he's played in the Premiership, but the question mark against him is consistency," said Pardew.

"Last year at times he was great, and then he'd put in a sub-standard performance.

"But if he plays like that every week, he stays in your team. He's bonded very well with Mark Hudson and that's always important in partnerships.

"If your partner isn't pulling his weight it can make you uncomfortable, but he feels comfortable next to Mark and that could be a good situation for us."
