Leov Wins Monster Energy Garbanzo DH

Tue, 11 Aug 16:19:00 2009

Kiwi ripper Justin Leov has taken the win at one of the worlds most punishing downhill races, the Monster Energy Garbanzo DH in Whistler, Canada. Tearing down the 3,400 foot descent, over some of the planets most aggressive terrain, Leov took the top spot ahead of Aussie shredders Chris Kovarik and Sam Hill. Marc Beaumont was the highest finishing European rider, rolling home just ten seconds off the Kiwis winning time. Canadas Miranda Miller took the win in the womens event over up-and-coming French sensation, Emmeline Ragot.

Event MC and Four Cross veteran, Stacy Kohut said, Riding smart was key today. Justin and Miranda both played it right and came out on top. This certainly worked for Leov, who took the top section steady before blitzing the latter part of the course saying, I held it pretty solid and then during the last minute I really smashed it. Near the end I was just holding on and it worked out.

With 330 competitors taking part and just one run to make it count, riders of all ages had to look to experience to make it down the mountain at the head of the pack. Junior winner, Luke Stevens did just that, keeping up with the pro boys to finish on an impressive 14:47.58 saying, I tried to keep it pinned and maintain my speed. I like to win with a bigger margin, but this is pretty good.
