NEW DELHI (AFP) - USPGA Tour star Daniel Chopra will headline the Hero Honda Indian Open next month, marking a triumphant return for one of golf's rising stars.
The event at Delhi Golf Club from October 9-12 will also feature defending champion Jyoti Randhawa, current Asian Tour number one, New Zealand's Mark Brown, and China's Liang Wen-chong -- last year's top ranked player.
Chopra, whose father is Indian and mother is Swedish, is making his first appearance in his national Open since 2001.
The 34-year-old claimed the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Hawaii at the start of the year for his second victory on the USPGA Tour. Last year he claimed the Ginn sur Mer Classic.
The prize money for this year's Indoan Open has been doubled to one million dollars.
"Everything is taking shape for another memorable Hero Honda Indian Open," said Indian Golf Union president TT Jagannathan.
"The prize money increase is a wonderful boost for golf in India and I think we are all excited about seeing Daniel Chopra come back and play here again."
