The Queensland Reds have sacked coach Phil Mooney after the team struggled through another Super 14 season.
Mooney still had a season to run on his three-year deal but was axed after the team managed to win just six of their 26 games since he took over.
"Announcing this decision now gives us time to recruit a new coaching team before pre-season training gets underway," the Reds board said.
Local media have speculated that former New South Wales coach Ewen McKenzie is the most likely replacement after he was sacked by French club Stade Francais earlier this week.
