Danny Cadamarteri has revealed he expected Scottish football to be packed with hatchet men out to get him, but he has been delighted to see teams north of the border play much better football than many of their English counterparts.
The former Everton, Bradford and Huddersfield striker, who was named Clydesdale Bank Player of the Month for August after scoring three goals in as many games for Dundee United, was prepared to be kicked black and blue every week following his move to the SPL.
But amid all the negativity about the Scottish game, Cadamarteri has been pleasantly surprised to see every team adopt a fair and flowing approach.
The 29-year-old has spent a chunk of his career in the English lower leagues and admits the long-ball tactics favoured down there meant he went weeks without actually using his boots.
"When I came up here, I expected to get kicked all over the park but that's not been the case," Cadamarteri said. "That's what it was like down in England at times and I had to adapt the way I played because of it. I spent two seasons getting the lumps kicked out of me.
"In League One and the Championship, that's a big problem because the teams don't play much football at times; they just want to fight and tussle because they can't play much."

Craig Levein's Tangerine Army. Good on ya Danny, hope you stick around for a few seasons. Yer a class act.
I think we will win the league this year. Cadamerteri will win the ballon d'or and the golden boot, sign for man united for around 10 million bigun's. and the mighty arabs should make every seasons target to make at least the quarters of the champions league.
Craig levein your a legend, hope you stay with us forever and win lots of silverware, titles and many successful european campaigns.
