Premier League - Brown wins manager gong

Eurosport - Sat, 11 Oct 14:47:00 2008

Hull City boss Phil Brown has won the Premier League Manager of the Month award.

FOOTBALL Hull City Phil Brown manager of the month September - 0

The 49-year-old led his newly-promoted side to 2-1 wins at Newcastle United and Arsenal and a 2-2 draw at home to Everton.

The excellent results helped the Tigers bounce back from a 5-0 home defeat to Wigan at the end of August, while they were followed by a big win at Tottenham Hotspur on October 5.

Hull, in their first season in the top flight, lie third in the Premier League standings.

The Player of the Month award was won by Aston Villa forward Ashley Young.

Former Watford star Young, 23, scored twice and got two assists in a 100 per cent September for Villa, who beat Tottenham, West Brom and Sunderland.

It is the second time Young has won the award, repeating his feat of April 2008.

  1. No-one can say that Brown did not deserve it because he obviously did! I mean, a newly promoted club with the name 'Hull city'... I mean whos heard of them? And they go and beat teams like Arsenal.... Newcastle... and Tottenham shitspur...
Well played mr. Brown, you are an inspiration to all other newely promoted managers and reinstate the feeling of 'every player has a chance' and 'In the end of the day, its 11 against 11'.

  2. amazing how the majority are saying HULL are going down.im a HULL supporter and most i would say at the beggining of the season would have agreed with you.HOWEVER unlike most other over hyped clubs mr brown has spent wisely, very wisely and i think a mid table finish will now be achieved.please give hull city a break, they are a hard working TEAM and deserve there current dizzy heights.go go tigers

  3. Hull are a flash in the pan; a once in a generation win at Arsenal, 2 wins over desperate clubs currently occupying the bottom 2 places in the PL and suddenly they're talking'Champions League'. I predict a bottom 8 finish and absolute, stone-cold, nailed-on certainties for relegation next season.

  7. Hull have my respect. I salute them for their team spirit. look, they dont have a world-class individual player like cristiano ronaldo, fernando torres or lionel messi but they can still achieve so much. they totally deserve to be in the position they are in right now. they only have geovanni (possibly the best signing this season), andy dawson (who needs michael?) and boaz myhill (david james, paul robinson, robert green and joe hart all conceded more goals than him). i'm backing hull to stay in the top half by the end of the season. come on hull! united fan here btw.

And as an arsenal fan for 29 years it was hard to take what hull city did but what made it worse is that I LIVE IN HULL and have all my life 39 years(the grief that i've had of the lad's has been hard to take) i hope city keep up the good work it's a great feel good factor around the town at the moment .
to be truthful i think city will finish about 12th but for the first season ever in the top flight that'll be great

  15. nope, stoke, spurs and middlesborough, i am a Pompey fan, we need more like clubs like Hull to do well, they got there with mostly british players and we need that to continue for sake of the English game.
