World Cup qual. - Terry out of Kazakhstan game

Eurosport - Sat, 11 Oct 10:41:00 2008

England manager Fabio Capello has ruled John Terry out of Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan at Wembley.

2008 England John Terry - 0

The Chelsea defender, who is suffering from a back injury, has not trained fully all week, and is already a major doubt for the game away against Belarus on Wednesday.

In Terry's absence, his central defensive partner Rio Ferdinand will captain the side while Matthew Upson and Joleon Lescott are competing for a place in the starting line-up.

Capello attempted to play down the importance of injuries to Terry and Chelsea team-mate Joe Cole, saying: "We have plenty of players, we have the substitutes, I am sure the substitute of John Terry will play well."

He added that Terry would attempt to train again on Sunday before England make a decision on whether he will travel to Belarus.

"It depends on his back, if he can train a bit the day after tomorrow," Capello said.

The Italian admitted Kazakhstan are something of a mystery following the dismissal of Arno Pijpers and the appointment of Bernd Storck.

The German has made a large number of changes to his squad, introducing several younger players, and Capello claimed he knows only four of the players likely to feature at Wembley.

"I saw three games of Kazakhstan, but they have a new manager, a new squad and have changed a lot of players," he said.

"They have a lot of players from the Under-21s and I have no videos. I know only four players!"

The 62-year-old also defended his decision to leave Michael Owen out of the squad saying that, on present form, the Portsmouth duo of Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe represent a better bet.

"I saw a lot of games and I decided on Crouch and Defoe. [This season] Defoe is the best scorer in England, this is the reason," he said.

Right-back Wes Brown suffered a minor knock in training after a tackle by David Beckham, but is expected to start, as is Emile Heskey who again trained fully following his injury.

  1. This is a great channel but full at times of fanatical supporters of MU Chelsea etc who hate players of the opposition. May I respectfully ask you to grow up and support your national teams. Despite what Shankly said, this is only a game and Terry Ferdinand etc will be gone in 3 years, but the national team lives on. Support your country and buy the shirt. Unfortunately I witness many people who do not live in the smoke or up north who support the top clubs as it is COOL to do so even though they have never been to the grounds. This country is not together any more and it is sad. Think about the guy who has had to give up as he has cancer. What do you want, the Germans or the Argies to win the World Cup? Come on!!

  2. The English manager took his team to the atrocious stadium in Croatia and noted the state of the pitch and the lack of changing facilites and poor, badly maintained toilets.

The squad turned up on the day of the match and changed into their strip while the manager fended off press enquiries outside as he had not yet named the team.

When he came back into the changing room to announce his selection he saw a human turd right in the middle of the dressing room floor.

He asked angrily, "Who's @#$% on the ground ??"

Quick as a flash, Peter Crouch and Emile Heskey both shouted out

"We are boss, but we're magic in the air !!"

Seriously : another drab struggle for England.

  9. Yet again as a forigner I get to laugh at England. You must be the only nation with fans that persistantly forget that your national team is made of 11 players drawn from different clubs. Your animosity between north and south east and west and inter club rivalry out weighs your ability to get behind your national team. Whilst you have such devision your national side will always fail, yet without doubt you have great players like Terry Cole Lampard Rooney Ferdinand Walcott Gerrard to name just a few . I am so pleased that the English club fans are so passionate about their clubs to the extent that they are unable to ever truly support the nationat side hrough predjudice.
Sussexdietcoke is a prime example. By the way if I was an England player I would not wish to play in the national side with supporters like the England team have, perhaps Terry doesnt want to play and who could blame him. Your players are great but many of your supporters are @#$%

Lets get one thing straight. JT is a bottler. None of us will forget those hilarious scenes of the cheat crying his eyes out when he missed THAT penalty. Whenever I am feeling a bit down I just recall that picture in my mind and all of a sudden everything feels right with the world again. When you think of the GREAT players like Moore and Charlton who have captained England in the past and all we have today is a crybaby cheating bottler. Sad days indeed.

Sorry this email is lengthy. I appreciate that all the tits who support Chelsea will have a problem concentrating for so long but there you go. Life's a @#$%.
