Rio blasts 'feeble' racism punishments

Sun, 11 Oct 21:32:50 2009

Rio Ferdinand fears "feeble punishments" for instances of unacceptable crowd behaviour in football may undermine the message that racism has no place in his sport.

England and Manchester United defender Ferdinand appears unconvinced that governing bodies always come up with suitably stringent sanctions against clubs whose supporters still transgress.

Chairing a debate on the scourge of racism through the ages and the need to ensure it persists no longer, Ferdinand noted regrettable behaviour is not always dealt with properly. "Then you see feeble punishments handed out," he said on MUTV.

"The message to youngsters is that it couldn't have been that bad after all.

"If you are (disqualified) out of a competition then I think young people get the message that it is harder-hitting."

  3. No 3 jack - the country is NOT yours, u tw*t! Show us your ownership lease or papers for the country being "yours" and then you would have a case. You may own your car as you have paid for it and maintained it as your own but how you've come to the conclusion that you own the country is beyond me. Typical racist pra*t - thick as @#$%!

  4. This is going to sound contentious to say the least but recently i've noticed that England have, at various times during games played with only 2 or 3 white players.I'm all for a broad ethnic mix but lets get things into proportion.
    What do you think?

  7. #4: How apt your name is! I'm just wondering if the half a brain thay you (claim to) have works. If it did you would know that any player and any true football fan has every right to take a stand against racism, whether in sport or anywhere! It has nothing to do with (your opinion of) his playing standard. Footballers make mistakes sometimes, because they're human beings. That doesn't mean hey can't stand up against somethig that is a blight on our national game.

  8. Walt Tabasco- Jews an Arabs are both Semites, they atre of the same race bu different ethnicities and religions. They can't be racists towards each other. Greeks and urks are also of the same race Indo European.

Fergie: Rio Ferdinand is black! Black is a political term these days, not a colour description. So Ryan Giggs is considered to be black by some people because his father is Afro Caribbean.

Criticising Rio for supporting the FA's anti racisim campaigns on the grounds that he has hada pooer game for England is ridiculous in the extreme. He wascommenting as on of the FA's anti racisim campaigners not as an England defender. Persionally I don't care what he does for England as long as he coms back fit to play for United.

Keep up the good work Rio and ignore the ignoramuses.

  10. Typical fools on here Rio is the best defender you have in your team, people loose form from time to time he will find again then you and the English press will start kissing his @#$% again. Funny aint it when John terry/gerrard/lampard plays @#$% no-one complains Rio has a bad game and everyone has a pop.

Ferdinand..has less of brain than 1/2 a brain"maybe he should go to turkey or greece &
ask them not to be racist towards each other or the jews towards arabs,or ask the kind
people of the balkans to love one another a little bit more, and when he can come back
with some answers and solutions then he can get that noble peace prize, because racism
is not all black&white,,utopia will never happen'10.000 years out of the caves and the
evolution of human behaviour will never change"rio needs to go to rwanda or sri lanka
or anywhere in the world and ask indigenous populations why they hate each other??bcos
when there has been bloodshed on the scale of genocide, hate runs deep..and no footballer, rock star, holy man, politican, will put a stop to hatered or racism...

  17. It's about time the England FA stopped being racists and allow British naturalised citizens the right to play for England. Is being a naturalised Englishman less than a native born Englishman? If so, the naturalisation papers are not worth the paper that they are printed on. I realise that this comment is above the intellectual ability of most Englishmen. This comment is NOT meant to be understood by the average Englishman, who is mostly a moron.
