Birmingham City v Aston Villa

Steve Bruce is declining to commit himself on whether Franck Queudrue may return. Rafael Schmitz moved from centre-half to left-back at Everton as Johan Djourou reclaimed his place after injury.

Martin O'Neill admits he has not ruled out the idea of throwing John Carew straight into the derby duel - the Norwegian striker has missed the last six games after damaging medial knee ligaments. Ashley Young (groin) faces a late test.

Bolton Wanderers v Middlesbrough

Bolton were without 12 players 2-2 for the draw against Bayern Munich but Ivan Campo, who stayed at home as he is not registered for the UEFA Cup, will return.

Middlesbrough defenders Emanuel Pogatetz and Robert Huth stepped up their comebacks from injury in the reserves on Tuesday and could come into contention.

Chelsea v Everton

Chelsea will be without goalkeeper Petr Cech after the Czech damaged his calf in Tuesday's Champions League match against Schalke. Carlo Cudicini is set for his first league match of the season in his place.

Andy Johnson could return to the Everton squad after missing the last six matches with an ankle injury.

Manchester United v Blackburn Rovers

Michael Carrick and French striker Louis Saha are back in contention after injuries. Gary Neville, however, is again sidelined after suffering a setback in his return from injury and Wayne Rooney has been ruled out for four weeks after a freak training ground accident.

Blackburn make the trip without Robbie Savage (knee) but South African defender Aaron Mokoena (shin) could feature.

Portsmouth v Manchester City

City are likely to be without Michael Johnson (groin) although Micah Richards, who missed Monday's home match against Sunderland with a knee injury should be fit.

Portsmouth's only doubt is Icelandic defender Hermann Hreidarsson, who has missed the last two matches with a groin injury but is close to returning to full fitness.

Tottenham Hotspur v Wigan Athletic

Juande Ramos had Younes Kaboul on the bench for the UEFA Cup win at Hapoel Tel Aviv but the French defender may returned after the boss said it was merely rotating players.

Frank Barlow in temporary charge of first-team affairs at the Latics and reserve keeper Carlo Nash has been ruled out for three months after breaking an ankle in a training-ground accident.
