Lewis Hamilton's dramatic World Championship victory has triggered a surge in ticket sales for next year's British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
In the week following the season-ending Brazilian GP, Silverstone reported they have sold just under 22,000 tickets for the 2009 race, almost 10 times that of the weekly average for this time of year.
Richard Phillips, managing director of Silverstone Circuit Limited, said: "The reaction from fans since Brazil has been incredible.
"We always notice an increase in sales when Lewis wins, or indeed if any of the British drivers do well, but the level of demand for tickets last week exceeded all expectations.
"We are already looking forward to seeing him here at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix in June. The atmosphere will be amazing."
Hamilton won this year's event at Silverstone with a stunning drive in the wet (pictured).
The 2009 race will be held on the weekend of June 19-21, and will be the last at the Northamptonshire circuit before the event switches to Donington Park in 2010.

Sorry for all my earlier posts - I realise now that I was used by more intelligent people than myself. I wish I had gone to school.
m.e.jenner, If he wants to comment on here then fair enough, but he should be able to write stuff we can all understand.
Picking through the bones of it, I think he's having ago at Lewis & Felipe.
I think he's an Alanso fan.
At no point in the article above do I read a claim that Silverstone will be sold out because of Lewis, of course it will be sold out like it is most years, it is simply saying that because of Lewis's championship they have seen a 10 fold increase in the number of ticket sale's than at this time last year.
It also goes onto say "We always notice an increase in sales when Lewis wins, or indeed if any of the British drivers do well, but the level of demand for tickets last week exceeded all expectations.
So please people can we read stuff before commenting, Thankyou.
But Bill he might not know it's so bad !! But seriously, I think you could be right about the true nature of the poster !!!!
Shaun C - You are a moron. It is simple economics. If they sell out now, they have more money in the bank at extended / prolonged rate of interest - which will ultimately improve their profit margins.
Mansell caused a Silverstone stampede, why not Ham.
Why do you keep posting on this site mouron? Nobody believes a word you say anymore.
touronroute says "you can only expect the truth from me", what this guy is taking the p1ss surely.
MP24-23.you can only expect the truth from me, i dont copy from the media, i get told alot of things that are the truth not the rubbish from the media, hamilton triggers silverstone surge, it hasn,t told you about the lookalike spanish party. i hope they give the cheeting mclaren a party what they will never forget.
I agree with SHAUN C I have never seen the British GP less than full. So a bit of a non-story really from Eurosport.
m.e.jenner: But he should'nt really be commenting in English if his English is that bad. Reading his post, it seems like he is having a dig at Hammy, a la mouron and is an Alonso supporter, but that is all I can get. Maybe it is mouron, certainly making as much sense as the globetrotting idiot.
Give dimitri a break, he's obviously not English and I'm quite sure I wouldn't be able to comment in his language.
SHAUN C,not printable & mouronroute, You really are laughable, I expect this sort of thing from mouronroute but you other two, you just can't give the Champion an inch can you.
dimitriyahna, Didn't understand any of that idiot!!!
I wish him from now on that breaks the car in the first return! The champion next year Alonso! If it had the car that it had at the end of the period and Hamilton and Mass they were staying behind! If it was adding only 5-6 points for pricey champion finishes for 2008. Since it is possible to say to champion Hamilton setting sail the title with 98 points! That laughs!
half the sales are because it is the last time at the venue.
LOAD OF BULL
so what it always sells out anyhow so whats the difference if they sell now or later
