Before the Gossip Shop flings open its doors today, it is necessary to post a warning in the window.
Considering the current global financial meltdown - which must be pretty serious given that even Chelsea's transfer policy has been affected - what follows may induce rage, nausea and no small amount of envy.
Cristaino Ronaldo's agent has met with Manchester United officials with a view to increasing his client's weekly wage to a whopping £130,000.
That's right, £130,000 a week. The meagre £120,000 he currently pockets every seven days is clearly not enough for either the Portuguese winger or his Mr 10 per cent, but a 10 grand pay rise should just about do the trick.
But that kind of deal is not going to come easy. Oh no, Ronaldo will have to show some loyalty to earn the increase, meaning he'll no longer be able to open his trap about a move to Real Madrid.
And that, Gossip Shop reckons, must surely rank as some of the easiest money he'll ever make. (Other than getting paid for doing nothing more than driving a car around the streets of Lisbon to a Fatboy Slim soundtrack for a Suzuki advert.)
Talking of silly money, let's head across town, where there's plenty of it sloshing around Manchester City's coffers.
The latest rumour to emanate from Middle Eastlands is that City will offer Jose Mourinho the princely sum of £15 million a year to return to England and replace Mark Hughes.
According to The Sun, plans to bring the Special One to Manchester were hatched five weeks ago, long before doubts were raised over Hughes's position at the club.
The Internazionale boss is thought to be unhappy with certain aspects of the Italian game, one of which The Sun claims to be media hostility - none of that stuff over here, Jose - and he has already stated his desire to return to the Premier League at some stage.
Hughes may have received a recent vote of confidence from owner Khaldoon Al-Mubarek, but it was a flimsy one at best and he was given no assurances over his long-term future at the club, leaving the door open for Mourinho's long-awaited return at the end of the season.
Elsewhere, in the non-sports pages of the same paper, a beaming Noel Gallagher is pictured being presented with a signed Alessandro Del Piero shirt.
Now Gossip Shop isn't one to peddle unsubstantiated rumours (a barefaced lie), but the Juventus and Italy striker is well known to be a huge fan of Oasis - he even appeared in one of their videos, probably swaggering about looking moody, wearing Stan Smiths and a parka with the fur-lined hood up.
And with the Gallagher brothers heading a list of celebrity City fans - which incidentally also includes Ricky Hatton, Bernard Manning and Curly Watts from Corrie - is it possible that Del Piero could up sticks and make a shock move to Eastlands?
Jamming at Carrington and post-match drinks in the directors' lounge with his rock heroes could prove too big a temptation for a man who would also benefit from a big money move before he retires. Watch this space.
First Cris. Then Fred, followed Alex and Jo. A number of Brazilian footballers with English-sounding yet vaguely amusing mono-monikers have graced the game in recent years.
And now there is another, and he could be on his way to Arsenal . Allow Gossip Shop to introduce bright young Palmeiras striker... Lenny .
He may have a rubbish name - well, at least compared to the likes of Zico, Adair, Jarzinho, Romario or even Socrates - but according to the Mirror, the Gunners have already tied up the starlet with a pre-contract agreement.
Apparently the youngster has impressed during his 12 appearances for the Brazilian side this season, alerting Arsene Wenger who is planning to bring him to Europe with a view to loaning him out to a Spanish club to gain experience and a work permit in much the same way as Carlos Vela did.
Andrei Arshavin - remember him? The golden child of Russian football who wanted a move to Barcelona in the summer - or anywhere for that matter, including Tottenham - but didn't get it. Well, having seen his team fail to qualify for next season's Champions League, the Zenit St Petersburg playmaker is back at it and hankering after a move abroad. Premier League clubs have been, as they say, put on red alert.
Spurs could also be interested in the news that midfielder Stephen Appiah is now officially a free agent and no longer tied to Fenerbahce. The Ghana captain got himself involved in an almighty legal wrangle with the Turkish giants over the summer but FIFA have now made the ruling, freeing him up to sign for another club. West Ham and Arsenal are also thought to be keeping track of his whereabouts.
Meanwhile, up in Newcastle, Nicky Butt has added to concerns over the future of the club.
The newly discovered free-kick maestro fears players like Michael Owen and Steve Harper - whose contracts are running out - will leave the club as long as there is uncertainty over the ownership of the club.
In other tittle-tattle, worst Premier League side ever Derby County want Bolton defender Danny Shittu on a month's loan, Hull City are after Dutch speedster Eljero Elia of FC Twente and Roy Keane is interested in taking promising centre-back Adil Rami from Lille to Sunderland.
And with that, the Gossip Shop closes its doors to customers for another day. Thank you, come again.

Understand all these points, but it's Joe Public who ends up paying through the nose for all this.
Yes, your right chris but may point about David Beckham meant that not only did it cost Real Madrid NOTHING to pay Beckham his large wage, they even made millions from his endorsements that became the property of Real Madrid. Football is now big business which is why big businessmen have bought lots of top football teams eg Silvio Berlesconi (current Italian PM) owning Inter Milan.
Jonathan G - take your point, but your maths is a bit dodgy. Even Man U don't make £100 profit per shirt. Not until they change their away strip next season, anyway.
Isn't David Beckham getting paid squillions in a tin pot league? These days fotballers make more money with endorsements, advertising etc than their astronomic wages!!
BUT ROCK STARS GET PAID BY PERFORMANCE if nobody goes to the gigs or there albums/singles are c*** they earn f*** all while these guys can just wander around the pitch & do nothing at all but would still get paid the same massave wage
And Stevie B's comment says it all, really.
Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooo
kuti ka bachay .ronaldo will never leave manu.
120 grand a week and you still want more ...... ronaldo - you really are a greedy littlefucker.
NOEL B what a big headed brainless prat you are united the only world class team so thats why they are miles behind chelsea & liverpool face it united are on the slide
If Ronaldo sells say another 500,000 shirts and wins the European Champions League that brings in say 50 millions then it will be good business to pay him nearly 7 millions. Football has become a crazy world but soon Michelle Platinni will get a "cap" on non- English players playing for English teams. I think that like Rugby, there should be a "total salary cap"
And I understand the rock star analogy, but how many rock stars can earn 60-odd million in ten years? Not many, and their time at the top is probably similar, so it's an interesting comparison.
I guess the main difference is that if people don't want to pay £100 to see a rock star, they can vote with their feet. When all the fans of a big club have to pay more to satisfy the whims of one petulant 13-year-old, it's a bit different.
Anyone earning the same sort of money as Jonathan Ross for around the same number of hours work per week should consider themselves lucky.
What we are talking about here is the difference between £6.24 million and £6.76 million a year. If I earned either of those sums in one year, I'd never work again. So what the hell is his point, exactly?
Football is now part of the worldwide entertainment business and until there is a "cap" on football salaries then the top footballers will demand what "they consider to be their own market value!" What do top rock musicians earn in their career? Remember that most footballers don't earn that amount of money but fans and boards of directors want instant success NOW!
Haw, Ronaldo, ya wee Portuguese baw-bag!!.. Go and get yersel' a real job! What you collect in yir pay-poke every week would pay fur another 4-5 nurses or coppers. Yir a greedy wee Charlie Hunt!!
THATS ABOUT RIGHT LADYBOY STICKING HIS (OR HER) ARSE OUT & WANTING MORE
domc882000 - Chelsea have purchased the ability to wind trophies? And I suppose your £30 Million pound signings of Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov and Ferdinand are all local boys? So to are those Brazilians playing in midfield? And that Portuguese chap, his parents own the chip shop down the road Old Trafford do they?
LOL! Just how @#$% was Man Utd at the start of the season when all their big signings were unfit?
And which part of Manchester is that berk Noel B from? Only one world class team? what a pr-t.
Football and money are just a bizarre topic. Top players on £6m a year is just laughable, how any player can ask for such an amount is absurd. If everybody chucked in their SKY subscription we could welcome them back to somewhere nearer the real world, well, our real world anyway.
it seems most people are living on a different planet here today NO footballer on this planet is worth £130k a week. there is no excuse or justification for this football was always our sport where we could go on a saturday after working all week and cheer for our heroes. i can remember having a beer with everton players in the 80's and we could identify with them. as much as i would love to have the best players in the world in my team i want people who want to play for the team not for the huge wages. maybe i am in a minority but for too long football has taken us fans for granted and think they can charge what they want to see a game or what they want for a shirt well at some point it has to stop DOES ANYBODY AGREE WITH ME????????
