Fitton in no rush to find new boss

Thu 11 Dec, 02:30 PM

Swindon chairman Andrew Fitton has revealed caretaker boss David Byrne is likely to be in charge for Saturday's clash at Crewe. Many Robins fans have become agitated by the length of time taken to appoint a new boss since parting ways with Maurice Malpas back on November 14.

Fitton has repeatedly stated that his intention to bring in the right man for the job is behind his meticulous approach, but supporters were hoping a decision would be made before Saturday with the Robins chief expected to fly to America next week.

Yet Fitton remains vague on when an appointment will be made, saying in the Swindon Advertiser: "I don't want to be held hostage to that. Even if a new man does come in, he will probably want to watch from the stands on Saturday, so Dave would take the team.

"Nobody likes uncertainty and I think it would be good to get this resolved, but I am desperate to make the right decision here. There were a couple of names I could have appointed quite quickly, but now I am glad I took my time."

It is understood Fitton has a shortlist of four candidates for the position who have all be interviewed this week, although the appointment is not expected to be a high-profile name.
