Ipswich have appealed to the Football Association against the red card shown to defender Alex Bruce on Wednesday night.Bruce was dismissed for a challenge on Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard during Town's 3-1 win but manager Jim Magilton is hopeful that video evidence will clear the Republic of Ireland international.

Magilton told the club's official website: "The boy is a wholehearted player and having watched the challenge again we felt there was good enough reason to launch an appeal.

"It's not a two-footed challenge and he hasn't gone over the ball.

"Maynard has gone to ground early and Alex's momentum has taken him into him."

The FA panel will convene on Friday afternoon and if they reject the appeal Bruce will begin a four-match ban against Cardiff on Saturday.
