Premier League - Chelsea deny Alex exit talk

Chelsea have moved to deny reports that defender Alex has handed in a transfer request to the club.

The Brazilian centre-back had been quoted by one national newspaper as saying that he wanted to leave the club in January in search of regular first-team football.

A statement on the club's official website said: "Chelsea would like to make clear that no transfer request has been received from any player. Chelsea will decide the future of any contracted player in the best interests of the club."

Brazilian defender Alex has told Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari that he wants to leave Stamford Bridge in January.

The 26-year-old - who has played 12 games for the west London side this season - was quoted in The Sun as saying: "I told Chelsea a few days ago that I wanted to leave.

"There are many options. But I have to think them through and see if Chelsea will let me leave in January."

Alex moved to Stamford Bridge from Santos in 2004 but spent three years on loan at PSV Eindhoven because of work permit problems.

He is behind England captain John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho in the Chelsea pecking order, and has himself been deputised by Serbian Branislav Ivanovic when he has been injured.

  8. Leave Alex alone. He will not be going anywhere while­ he is under contract to Chelsea.
    Wouldn't mind his­ weekly wages myself. As for him being 3rd choice. He­ has had quite a few games this season and Chelsea will­ make sure they do not suffer with a shortage of players­ in any position. We al know that any Chelsea player­ would get a place in any Premiership side because they­ are all class players!
    You have all seen the problems­ that Chelsea have had with Drogba being injured and for­ being a "naughty boy" hence having only one­ forward Annelka, even if his is the Premiership top­ scorer Chelsea need Drogba to sort out the teams that­ come to the Bridge and park a coach in front of their­ goal as they are not able to play any other way against­ a class team.

  10. As another Arsenal fan commenting on this thread, Alex­ is a good centre back, he even knocked us out in 1/4­ final of champions league with PSV 2 years ago, but all­ we need in the centre of defence is Phillipe Senderos­ back from AC Milan.

  12. Alex should come to arsenal because he needs a new club­ and arsenal need a new cb. Since gallas is a good­ player but not right for arsenal,djourou seems to be­ making school boy errors; Meanwhile silvestre has just­ had his day and might aswell move to america while they­ still appreciate old and busted players. However kolo­ toure is in my opinion one of the best cbs in the­ premiership and the most underated one, toure and alex­ could be formidable.

  17. Most people missing the point here. Alex had been­ relegated to 4th choice recently when as 3rd choice he­ would have played every game as Carvello has been out­ most of the season. I'm sure that is his problem­ and he won't end up leaving. Can't see Kenyon­ selling a player in a position that possible cost us­ the league last year due to lack of decent cover.
