Sat 12 Jan, 11:09 AM

Goalkeeper Steve Banks has pledged his future to Hearts by signing a new two-and-a-half-year deal.

The 36-year-old has also been appointed as goalkeeping coach at Tynecastle, having held the position on an interim basis since the departure of Jim Stewart earlier in the season.

Banks had been targeted by Rangers as back-up for Allan McGregor with Roy Carroll set for a return south of the border.

Hearts caretaker manager Stephen Frail told www.heartsfc.co.uk: "It is great news for Hearts.

"When other clubs want you and you pledge your future to Hearts it gives everyone a boost.

"I am really pleased that he has decided to stay with Hearts. It's fantastic for everyone connected with the club."

Banks added: "I am delighted to have extended my deal with Hearts.

"I believe that the club has a bright future and we are all working hard to deliver the success that everyone associated with Hearts wants."
