Cardiff boss Dave Jones has revealed he was chasing Chris Burke for 18 months before landing him on a "bargain" free transfer from Rangers. The winger, 25, signed for the Bluebirds prior to Saturday's postponed Championship clash against Derby and could make his debut against Birmingham this weekend.
And Jones is excited about the impact Burke could have on the club's charge for promotion to the Premier League.
"We tried to sign Chris 18 months ago and could not get him," said Jones in the South Wales Echo. "But we kept tabs on him and now he has joined us.
"His medical was clear and we have picked him up for nothing. There is no fee. That's another bargain for us. He has had a virus and an ankle injury but he has been playing this season. We are offering him a fresh challenge and a new start."
Jones added: "We might well have picked up a superb player in Chris and we'll find out when we get him going. He is quick and skilful."
