Mayo eager to keep flying for Gulls

Mon 12 Jan, 06:15 PM

Brighton defender Kerry Mayo is hoping to extend his career with the League One club even further after returning from a knee injury. The 31-year-old made his 410th appearance for the Seagulls as a late substitute against Swindon at the end of last month after three months out with a knee injury he suffered while on loan at Lewes.

With his current deal due to expire at the end of the season, Mayo is keen to extend his Seagulls career into a 15th year.

"I am in my 14th year as a professional here now but I am not over the hill or past it, as people say. I have been out for three months and I just need games to get fit," Mayo told the Argus.

"It is down to the manager and chairman to make the decision over a new deal and, whatever decision they make I will respect.

"I'd rather find out sooner, so that I can look elsewhere, but first and foremost I am a Brighton player and I would like to remain here."
