Rodgers release won't hurt Vale

Mon 12 Jan, 03:45 PM

Chairman Bill Bratt insists Port Vale's transfer budget has not been damaged by the decision to terminate Luke Rodgers' contract.Vale were in line to receive around £30,000 from the sale of the forward had Yeovil agreed to buy him after the conclusion of his month-long loan deal at Huish Park.

Such a fee never came to fruition at the start of the month but, despite rumoured interest from other clubs, Rodgers' contract, which was due to expire at the end of the season, was subsequently terminated by mutual consent.

The 27-year-old admits the decision was the "best outcome" for him after he had a bust-up with manager Dean Glover, leaving their relationship in tatters.

But Bratt is adamant the club never accounted for a fee from Rodgers' sale, he told The Sentinel: "It was frustrating, but these things happen in football and you have to get on with it. It won't affect our budget because we hadn't accounted for any transfer fee.

"There is money available and that hasn't altered, the money is there to sign Dave Brammer and Lee Collins."
