Mon 12 Jan, 06:30 PM

Middlesbrough midfielder Josh Walker faces a lengthy spell out after tearing ankle ligaments during Saturday's clash with Sunderland.Making his first start in the Premier League and seen as a bright prospect for the future, the 19-year-old was forced off early in the second half of the 1-1 draw.

A specialist determined the England youth international has torn lateral ligaments in his left ankle, with the club refusing to put a timescale on his absence as the injury is still being assessed.

Fellow midfielder Didier Digard, who was taken off after 65 minutes after taking a heavy blow to the head, will be fit for Saturday's trip to West Brom.

  1. He is indeed a very good prospect for the future and in his two starts seemed as if he had been in the first team for ages showing a maturity which belies his years. Good luck to the lad for a speedy recovery.

  2. Thats a cruel blow for a player who looks really promising. At least his age will allow a more rapid recovery rate. We need his qualities to keep us at this level
