Wolves sweat on fitness of Hennessey

Mon 12 Jan, 06:00 PM

Wayne Hennessey is battling to shake of a virus in time for Wolves' rescheduled FA Cup clash against local rives Birmingham. The goalkeeper missed Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Preston through illness, leaving Carl Ikeme to take his place between the sticks and faces a late fitness test.

Midfielder David Edwards recovered from a hamstring injury in time to tackle North End but manager Mick McCarthy must decide whether he can handle two games in the space of four days.

Defender Kevin Foley missed out at the weekend with a hamstring injury and remains doubtful for the encounter, while midfielder Michael Gray has moved to Sheffield Wednesday on a month-long loan.

McCarthy planned to play a reshuffled line-up for the initial meeting before it was postponed due to a frozen pitch, with Andy Keogh and Sam Vokes starting in attack.

And it remains to be seen which starting XI he will opt with against their local rivals at St Andrew's.

  1. Does anyone realise Wolves were within 7 minutes of going 9 points clear at the top of the table and guess what they blew it as predicted.
Once more the player are proven to be not good enough. Kightly is playing at the standard suitable for the league he came from and the defence is useless. We are going the same way as all the other seasons and will be lucky to be in the play offs come May.

  4. I think McCarthy needs to stop sending away his better back-up players on loan, and sort out whatever is going on in training. It is obvious there is problems with hamstring knocks, maybe Tony Daley needs a kick up the backside. why the hell they got the clubs record breaking unfit player to be fitness coach God only knows.
Sort it out Mick! Field the best players! they are professional athletes (we are told) so why cant the do three games in a week?
