Speaking at the launch of the new Ferrari, 2008 championship runner-up spoke of the new F60 package and his hopes for the coming season.
"When you drive a car for the first time on the track it is always an important emotional day for us," he said. "It is the second time that I will bring the car to the track for the first time and I am very happy, proud, because... it is an important day for the team, for the Tifosi, and that makes me happy."
With the raft of regulation changes for the forthcoming season, the new F60 looks very differenct to its predecessor. With such sweeping aerodynamic changes, Massa admits he really did not know how the car would actually look in the flesh.
"I am quite surprised... The new car is small and compact in the rear-end especially," he said in a video interview. "It looks pretty nice, pretty cute and hopefully it will be as quick as it looks."
Massa was asked about his 2008 campaign, which saw him miss out on championship success by just one point to Lewis Hamilton, and he remains upbeat and naturally determined to battle for the championship once again this year.
"I feel stronger and I feel more experiences, especially after last year and how the championship came from the middle to the end of the championship season," he said. "You learn and that for sure makes me feel more ready."
Last year Ferrari and McLaren held the upper hand with BMW Sauber, Renault and Toro Rosso close behind. This year Massa is making no predictions but does expect the usual suspects to start the season strongly.
"I think it difficult to point to who is going to be the most difficult to beat," he said. "For us we expect McLaren to be very competitive. BMW are working very hard and are growing a lot year by year. Maybe Renault and maybe we can have some other teams that can show great performances as well. So it is difficult to point to who will be quickest but we are working hard and we'll be there..."

Ideally, all teams should have the same amount of money to operate. However, this is extremely rare in sports. Look at football, for example. The bigger teams (Man U, Real Madrid, etc.) have more money to spend, which is why they are usually at the top. In the US, the NFL (American football) and the NBA (basketball) have salary caps, which produces a more level playing field. Something similar in F1 may produce the same effect, but it would be much more complicated to enforce.
As far is i can see it,s bernice that has few morals as he takes the lions share of the revenue but accuses every one else of greed.
Just an opinion
No problem Forza Ferrari i understand where your coming from.to be truthful in this age people get what they can and im sure that goes for businesses in f1.
My point is is it morally right :-)))
MGA, I can't post the rest of my response. I give up. Yahoo simply won't let me.
The key is, where does the revenue come from?
Well, it all depends. I really don't know how revenue sharing works in Formula One. I am assuming that whichever agreement is in place was agreed to by all the teams. Like any business, all parties will try to get the most our of their investment. We really can't fault Ferrari for trying to get the best possible deal.
Forza Ferrari,
But does that make it right?
The reason that Ferrari get more money is simple: "leverage"
No other team has as much leverage in Formula One. I am not saying this as a Ferrari fan, I am simply stating a fact. When it comes to merchandising, television contracts, marketing, etc., no other team affects the bottom line as much as Ferrari. The other teams know and accept this, as it also has a positive effect on their bottom line. You take Ferrari out of Formula One, and all of the sudden the revenue streams are not so good. Simple economics!
Pearson404.
The reason Ferrari got the extra money was explained by Bernie slightly differently,
"Ecclestone explained:
"They were the only team that broke ranks with the other manufacturers - why did they break ranks? That's where the $80 million comes in. We 'bought' Ferrari. We 'bought' Ferrari's loyalty. Our deal with Ferrari was that we 'bought' them so they would not go to the others."
"and all the extra things Ferrari have had for years - the 'general help' they have had in Formula One," said Ecclestone.
Nothing to do with longevity old bean :-) They were bought.
there seems to be some very bitter and ill informed people like peter e and philo ferrari get more money than anybody else because they are the only founder members left in the field. And talking about cheating wasnt it funny not how hamilton just happond to get 5th position on the last corner after the driver he passed suddenly lost all those seconds was there a radio call come on please win it fare and squire or had ron dennis and his motley crue mysteriously got got hold of some body elsies secret tech i yoused to respect ron dennis before farrari gate but not any more i think he came out of it looking very bad and should of resigned
go big red!!!!
Ferrari are the cheaters, with all that extra money that no other team have had, THATS CHEATING.
Yes don't let anyone say you hit Lewis' in the back end on purpose! With this new car, you can scoop him right up and let his back sit out the race while you keep him right where you can see him. Then Kimi will let you pass again at he right moment again to take it all.
Massa my friend, this year is yours. Show the cheaters that you are the true champion!
