Championship - Blades 'will cope without Beattie'

Darius Henderson is confident Sheffield United could cope if leading scorer James Beattie is sold to Stoke City this month.

Premier League strugglers Stoke have made an enquiry for Beattie and are expected to step up their pursuit of the former England international.

Beattie (pictured) missed the Blades' 1-0 win over Norwich City at the weekend and was replaced in the team by Henderson, who scored the game's only goal.

Henderson would be disappointed to see Beattie leave Bramall Lane, but feels the Blades can still mount a promotion push without the former Everton and Southampton striker.

"Players come and go at every club, that is a fact of footballing life," said Henderson. "Beatts has done fantastically well for us, there's no question about that, and we would all be sorry to see him leave.

"But, if he is to go, it just means that the other strikers here will need to step up to the plate and make sure he is not missed.

"And we definitely have the strikers at this club who are capable of doing the job required."

  1. What the hell is going on at the Blades at the moment? We're all on about making a push for the Premiership, and yet we've transfer listed our first choice keeper, and we're now on about selling our top scorer? No disrespect to the rest of the team, they're a great bunch with some top class players, but get a bloody grip Kevin.
